I have a first model year 2014 “S”. I can tell you it is very reliable and fast even after 200k miles. Has keyless entry with proximity sensors and paddle shifters. In Sport mode it is “alive”! Braking improves as well as acceleration. I got gas today, just a few gallons because it’s reading 35MPG.

I remember turning on the factory installed LED headlights for the first time. It was amazing. Very small projector balls. And when you see them from afar. They get like a lavender reflection spot which is very aesthetic.

It’s an “inline” 1600cc engine. Last I checked a “inline” 1300cc GSXR will do 200mph!

Few of us TW members are on the GRC forum.
If you need to see MESO’s latest build he’s on there too.

    It has 300 HP.

They're claiming 4.9 seconds 0-60, and a 13.3 second 1/4 mile. Pretty respectable in my book. No, it isn't a supercar. But, that's damn good for a grocery hauler.

I think GR Corolla is not very Toyota like. I think Toyota is a company normally under utilize the powertrain so it will help in reliability & longevity. GR Corolla seems at the extreme end squeezing 300HP out of 1.6L engine. If you compared to something like Evo X it was 291hp with 2L engine and Sti made 305hp from a 2.5L.

On the other side, I think Toyota have the regular Corolla (including hatchback with a manual transmission) for those who want a dependable Toyota and for those who want a fun car may be those who lease or trade in short times have cars like GR Corolla, GR86, GR Supra. I think....

I cashed in on some company stock to get one, and couldn't get a single dealer to give me anything but a run-around and vague mentions of "wait lists". I've since cooled off and decided to finish an old project car instead.

This year's blue flame color might make me flip-flop again though...

The GRC is a nice car and probably one of the best in its class. Like a modern day STI replacement. The block is very strong and with upgraded valve springs in can handle more power without issue. I was actually first on a waitlist and waited a year to get a circuit edition. Towards the end of the wait I test drove one of the other cars I was considering (audi rs5), fell in love with it, bought it and gave up my waitlist spot. I know it's a different class of car but the interior quality and space was too big of a gap for me to overlook in a daily driver, especially having to put a baby seat in the back.

I think for its price point it is a nice car and not a bad deal for the performance it has given current inflation.

I wouldn't know everything I drive now days is stock.

    True but I wouldn't pay 35k+ for a Corolla.

I agree. But, I can see a place for this type of thing in the market. If I was looking for something practical that would still be fun to drive, a sporty hatchback would fit the bill nicely. But, if I just wanted something sporty, I'd rather get something like a Nissan Z for that kind of money. Although, the newer ones are a little more expensive than that.

Yeah, I think all the little buzz bombs are about the same price. I wouldn't buy the GR Corolla myself, because my wants and needs are more practical these days. But there was a day when I wouldn't have hesitated, 40 years ago. At that time, it was my 1984 Supra. A lot has changed. This Corolla would have been sweet!

Now if I wanted to get a fun commuter...

What a great sounding engine! I had swapped in a 6MG, and converted from automatic to manual, and a few other mods. But, it was never complete, and I didn't have the money to really do what I wanted anyway. I loved driving it, though!

Mine was all stock, 2.8/5-speed. Cloth, not leather. Looked like this, best color imo. Don’t think I have a good pic of mine.

I wouldn't say Toyota is at the extreme end of that engine. Formula 1 cars use 1.6L engines and push 850hp.
