    My pedigree: 2015 SR5

I recently had my head unit repaired. I seldom use the factory Nav system because I find it cumbersome and it often takes me the long way, adding 3 - 4 hours to a 6 hour trip.

So it's been about 4 months since I turned the Navigation app on.

    And it doesn't work....

It shows me located 2 or three miles from where I am physically. "Bitchin Betty" tells me to proceed to the highlighted route. But my location never moves.

So, 1st thought, the repair man forgot to hook up the GPS antenna. Simple fix...

I removed the head unit today. The GPS Ant was plugged in and the connector was tight. I unplugged and re-plugged it but still no joy, the GPS still can't find me.

So, do I buy an OEM GPS Antenna and remove/replace? Or should I be looking elsewhere for my problem.

Is it possible that the touch screen is somehow out of calibration?

The factory nav system serves as a back-up to my backup. It's the third choice I'd make to find my way.

But the Engineer in me can't stand to have something not working properly. I want 'Ol'Hoss" to be 100% Toyota and 100 % working.

    Any thoughts?

Possibly try to remove , and reinstall the SD nav card in lower right side of your head unit. I also have a 2015 Sr5… I have had problems with my nav over the years I installed an updated nav card a few years ago, but the problem persisted. . I just purchased a Garmin drivesmart 66 because I could not rely on the factory unit.

I’m in a similar situation — stereo claims XM antenna isn’t connected, need to pull the head unit to check out the connections on the back. Is that a separate antenna, or is there a fuse for those antennae?

The GPS antenna connector plugs into the head unit on the top left, looking at the head unit from the front. The GPS antenna sits up under the dash near the windshield, glued to a crossmember. There is no fuse in the antenna circuit because it is not needed, (fuses are over current devices and GPS antenna current is in microamps.)

My connector was tight but I removed and reconnected it on the off chance that my head unit tech messed up. No joy there...

Here's where I am: The antenna connection is tight. The antenna exists and worked before the head unit repair. The GPS works but can't find my location.

Tried to upgrade/correct my SD Nav card. No dice.

I think Old goat, above, has my solution. Last night I ordered a new OEM SD Nav Card from ebay, 50 bucks. (My local 4Runner Dealer wanted $175. (Baa Waa Haa). I'll get and install it next week.

jth - I would not pull the head unit unit I tried to update the SD Card. The head unit comes out pretty easily once you overcome your fear of busting a clip. Slow and careful feeds the bulldog. Try that first and maybe save yourself a little time & effort.

There is scant info on GPS problems on this forum. I guess that means there aren't many problems... or that people don't often use Toyota's cumbersome navigation system with it's outdated 2018 maps... As I said above, if it wasn't for my Engineer's OCD I wouldn't bother fixing it...

Is the antenna really just glued on there? That’s surprising. Reason I’m asking is because I replaced my factory headunit yesterday and the factory navigation antenna was just loose back there. I wonder if the glue broke free or something. Going to do some more digging as my new headunit can reuse the factory antenna versus using their supplied one.

The nav antenna on my 2015 SR5 just sat on a metal crossmember that supports the dash. I think it might have had a spot of glue on it but not much, if any.

It would not surprise me if the ant was in there loose.

I went w/ the Kenwood DNX 577S, the Idatalink Maestro, the harnesses to plug & play the components and the Crutchfield trim & install package.

Very happy and very satisfied. Should have ditched that brick of an OEM head unit the DAY I bought that truck...

I’ll have to look closer at it later and see if there’s any glue, I don’t recall seeing any though. What an odd way for Toyota to handle that. I assumed it would’ve been bolted back there. And yes, plus one on ditching the brick. I put in a Sony XAV-AX4000 yesterday and it’s nice having a larger screen and wireless CarPlay.
