Blind spot monitoring in a vehicle meant to drive trails (Trail Hunter) would drive me absolutely insane. Every tree, rock or close object would make it blink.
*Note* I have never owned a vehicle with this feature and am not sure if they could set it differently or have an option to turn it off.

On my wife's car, if it detects a vehicle there is a small orange light the glows on the side view mirror to warn you. There is no noise unless you have your turn signal on to turn in a lane that a car is detected then it will beep at you. Barely notice it's there until you actually need it, nice feature.

Since my wife owns a venture I am being forced to disagree (send help).

but yes if we hadn’t gotten her venture new for sr5 pricing. Stupid prices for the “upgrades”

If it would even blink when offroading it would be a distraction as you are constantly using your mirrors anyways.
Is it great for traffic? I bet it is.

Probably can turn it off. Every vehicle I have owned with it had the ability to turn on or off

The new Trail Edition is just an SR5 with different paint, roof basket and a cooler. It doesn't have all of the offroad nannies that come with the Offroad trim.

Excuse my ignorance. Isn't the "trail edition" also known as the "venture edition"?

I like our "offroad nannies". It is interesting to see what a computer & vehicle can do without intervention...
Is it necessary... maybe the locker.

Yea a button to disable blind spot monitoring would be a must for offroading. As far as traffic goes, yea it's great. Peace of mind having that system to double check you after you look over your shoulder

Yeah im not into those fancy options either! I really hope Toyota doesn't mess up something that's already great! Instead, Toyota needs to focus on accessories or features appealing to offroading.

    No, two different editions.

Trail is based off the SR5.

Venture is based off the OffRoad and has Pro wheels, a roof basket and some blacked out pieces I think??

I think a great option would be a frame thats undercoated and protected from the factory. Novel idea. Simple and low tech enough.

"Option" that needs to be factory if you ask me. 2.5 yrs & 10k miles & surface rust is happening. Time to prep & seal! It doesn't even drive in the storms. Only after & washed asap.
Toyota needs to fix the paint quality and frame coating!

    Ryan,

Sorry to hear this. When commented about storms so you mean you don’t drive it in the rain even?

I was planning to have mine fluid filmed within two months of purchase. To be very honest this rust stuff is the only thing I am nervous about.

Fortunately I don’t plan to use as a daily vehicle keep in garage. I live in Michigan with salt and plan to keep in garage october through April snd even yes avoid rain.

I have seen some ugly frames here on 2018/2019 vehicles for sale on dealer used lots.

These pics are of 2018 SR5 35k miles.

I'm sure that would fall into the "Toyota says this is normal" category...lol

That's not rust... that's "Toyota Patina"...;)

Pictures like yours @mac1usa is the only thing that makes me nervous about moving to OH. I want to keep my Frankie for a VERY long time but rusty frames say otherwise.

Yes, we drive it in the rain! We will drive it in the snow after the storm if needed but try to wait for the roads to clear.
I have owned my '04 F-250 since new as a plow truck with a salt spreader and I said it would never happen to a non work truck.

TOYOTA may be listening to their consumers, but when it comes to 'r u s t' I'm convinced they have their hearing aides turned off. Nothing's perfect, but when one considers frames rust from the inside out, looking at the out, is disgusting.

@doc4216. Yeah your OH is just like Michigan and road salt. The cops are worse though in OH

I am really looking at fluid film application once per year. Seems to be the consensus on here and elsewhere. What part of OH are you going to? My biggest issue is finding someone to trust to do it.

I am not confident to know what the heck I am spraying versus not. My toyota dealer warned me of rubber swelling.

I have to think that is around doors though. I am thinking of just doing underbody. Plus mine will be in garage parked October through April. The Honda Accord will be the winter car. So I would think that has to help.

If you’re driving it in winter I read some guys fluid film twice per year in our area. Fall and springs It’s a pia though they were should have to do this for new 40-50k vehicles.

This will be my first Toyota product so hopefully a good experience. My older Explorer body on frame never rusted with old fashioned rubber undercoating.

However, now folks tell me that rubberized stuff is no good for new 4r with all the technology and wires and bs.

I am still one investigating and will do something for sure.

Good idea. I'd do the same. Be worth it I think to search the forums a bit for info.

Using Krown seems to be popular in Canada, don't know about locations your way. But anything might be better than nothing.

There was a guy on another forum who did DIY. The amber finish looks a lot like the stuff I had done by my dealer on my - then new - '86 4R.

(Hoping this is a sister site and it's ok to post a link...)

So seriously, what could (or would likely) Toyota bring out with a Trail hunter trim that we haven't already seen on one trim level or another ?

Or are they just slimming down the product line up ?
