I am trying to decide between the light bar version and the multi-light setup and according to Gobi they said the multi-light setup had the extra support pieces because it was needed for the multi lights to be stable. I don't see how that makes sense. I asked them about installing multi lights on the light bar version since then I could switch between full bar or multi light depending on what I wanted at a later date but they said to go for the multi light setup.

Anybody with the Gobi rack have opinions on this?

The lights mount to a plate attached to the bottom of the rack. The extra vertical bars might help to strengthen the top front of the rack, like if you were standing up thru the moon roof and holding on to the top bar. They would not be needed with the weight of today's LED lights. I tested out the KC slim lite spots last night. They are crazy bright and I like the old school look.
