    Leveling Kit
Well, I have a 2019 TRD Off-road and I’m just now making some changes so I’m here for input and help. Glad to be here!

I have a leveling kit already amd I want to put on 28570R17 instead of the stock 265. One, do I need to lift it still and two, do the factory TRD wheels work with 285 tires?

I’ve seen posts of pics of folks saying they both work and I’ve seen posts of guys saying they have rubbing and what not so I wanted to start a new thread. Any advice helps - thanks!

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin!

Lift doesn't actually clear tires. Wheel offset, alignment, and trimming clear tires. Usually 285/70/17's can be cleared with minimal trimming.

Which TRD wheels are you referring to? The off-road tires are 7.5" wide, which is within the range for 285's. The PRO wheels are 7" wide, which is below spec. That said, a lot of folks are running 285's on them without issues.

Not without a regear, he won't! And, he probably won't love the amount of chopping, trimming and pounding required to fit 34's, either.

I am doing fine, no loss of power. Just bad mpg thanks to other factors like 200+ lbs of skid plates, tire and wheel on the roof rack and steel bumper with winch. I am getting 14 smiles per gallon :)

With 34s you will treat rocks like pebbles :)

I'm not sure how that's possible. I noticed it instantly when I went up to 285/70/17. With the 295's, it downshifts nonstop at freeway speed, so much that I drive in S4 90% of the time.

You don't really feel it just putzing around town. You feel it at full throttle, and you feel it when you're on the freeway and it can't stop downshifting.

I know it's the tires, because I remove the roof rack most of the year. And, I just drove mine around for a few days with the bumper, winch, front skid, and all of my tools and recovery gear removed. Even completely empty, having removed a few hundred #, it still doesn't move like it did on stock size tires.

Like Thatbassguy said yesterday about tire clearance, lift is only part of it. Wheel offset and alignment are important.
