A couple weeks ago I started noticing a chirping sort of squeak coming from the front end of my 98 4runner. I took it in to a mechanic the next day to diagnose, and of course that day it didn't make the sound at all. They checked the ball joints and all the brake pads, and I had them replace a CV axle that had a blown out boot, which I was going to get replaced anyway. Since then the sounds has come back, and gotten more consistent.

The sound in question is somewhat similar to a squealing belt or having something stuck in the brakes. It's quiet enough that if I have the windows rolled up and the stereo on at normal volume it's more or less drowned out, but if the stereo's off or a window's rolled down it's impossible to ignore.

I only hear the sound when moving, and the rhythm seems to match the speed of the vehicle. It doesn't make it when idling, and turning or going over bumps doesn't seem to effect it. I've looked around the internet for answers a bit, but I haven't found anything that matches it exactly, at least yet. Any ideas what it could be?

It is a "chirping" and not a consistent squeal or whine?

    4x4 rig?

It could be as simple as the brake splash guard got a little bent and is rubbing the rotor? I had something similar. Just enough that the rotor was just touching it.

Yeah it's 4x4. It's a rhythmic chirping, not a constant squeal. It could be something like that, I hadn't thought of that possibility.

Turns out it wasn't coming from the front end at all. It's been narrowed down to either the CV joint on the driveshaft, or the bearing where the output leaves the transfer case. Need to unbolt the driveshaft and move the output independently to determine which it is for sure.

I think I have a different issue but I am at a loss. I keep getting this chirping noise whenever I am accelerating around 1500-1800 rpm. Thought it was alternator, no luck. Changed belts no luck. Tensioner pulley no luck. Has anyone had the same issue or have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated! https://youtube.com/shorts/0Qsa_GCyeHA?feature=share
