Front Coil Springs Which Ones???

    Bilstein leveling kit/ BFG All Terrains
    I have a 2010 4runner with the Bilstein adjustable front struts that run the factory front coil springs. I'm looking at replacing the coils with OME 2884 or 2885 coils. I've been searching for 3 hours and cannot find any information on the specifications of my stock coils. I'm trying to lift the front to match the 3"'s in the rear. Not sure what to buy. The only extra weight the front end will get is a hidden winch mount along with a 12,000lb winch.
    Does anyone have any info that can help???

    I use OME 2883s and Bilstein 5100s on top setting and I got 4" of lift front, 2" lift rear in my limited and it's about level. I have reset my strut high 3 times before I didn't know what I end up with. I used Energy isolators at 0.5 added and that's what I got. Drives and rides great. Better than my Xreas

    2883,2884, or 2885 depending on how much weight you plan to add (if anymore.) I believe the spring rate is the same between these coils they just get longer to account for spring sag.
    Stock springs are 500 lbs. These OME options are 590 lbs.

    If you're not planning to add steel skids 2884 is a safe bet. If you are planning to add full steel skids you may want to consider 2885.

    Thank you for your input Greg, that does look nice! I ended up going with Dobinsons 3" coils and plan to start at the second setting on my struts. I'll include a picture when I get it set up. Do you have any drivers side lean?

    2883-590lb, 2884-690lb I believe. I went to Summit Racing and looked at the specs on their site to get some basis. It said 3" lift for 2883s. I don't carry a lot of weight but I didn't want my teeth jarred out of my head and I thought a little softer would be better on trail. Everything I read most people got 2884s or more. Most people buy more than they need for purpose because of marketing and illusions of grandeur. There's what you think you will do and what you will really do. We are programmed to think more, better, must be best. We are humans. I use Summit for specs. Hard to find as much information to what they provide for comparison.

    Yeah I still have probably half inch. I was wondering if I couldn't preload my sway bar with my adjustable links to adjust height or lean a little. I don't really worry about it. I can worry a hole through a motor block if I get started. I'm 240lbs, 6'2" and if it didn't lean I would worry. I load tools and stuff on passenger side. I'm going to see if my rear springs settle and I may drop front to next setting, but I like ride and handling. To be lifted it drives like Xreas. Now it feels like the whole truck is riding on one taunt spring and working together. I like bumps now. It recovers nicely.

    I'm putting 33s and wheels on Friday and I will go from there. I think it will look about right honestly. I'm 39.5" rear top edge of fender and 39" front. First time I used second setting with rear factory springs and it was level also. It just didn't feel like they were working together driving.

    I'm just going off top of my head from what I read last year. I didn't look at ARBs specs. I wasn't sure what brand I was thinking of using. I used Freedom Off Road UCAs and rear springs. They were cheap like me with good long term reviews. Rear springs were a little bit over $100 I believe. I have learned from experience of wasting money. I drive on hwy 99% of time. Less is more sometimes. It depends on what you are going to actually do. I drove 4runners forever without all this and made it there and back. I usually end up changing something again. When I need lower ball joints I will probably use their LCAs also.

    From some of the driving I have seen on YouTube I see why. More power not always better. With Atrac and brain you should be able to go anywhere.

    Everything made in China or with Chinese steel. I may go with Bilstein springs next time. Usually quality stuff. I don't think they are made in China. Germany or US made I believe.

    A local shop showed me three sets of OME coils that broke during normal driving on the streets.

    I was planning to use my OME springs with Dobinsons shocks. When I saw the pile of springs I decided to go with Dobinsons instead despite the cost difference.

    Not really sure if driving style would be a good reason to excuse coils breaking. Thats a defective part if I’ve ever seen one.

    Stock 4Runners have made it past 500,000 with a ton of abuse on stock coils. Ive never seen stock springs break within a year of driving…

    I’ve heard rumors about ARB changing production facilities. I wouldn’t be surprised to see quality issues if that happened.

    it wouldn’t be the first time OME struggled with quality… I’m sure many people remember the spring sag issue. OME started marking springs and part numbers with an “x” to note the production change that addressed this issue.

    If it's made in Mexico now then I will be collecting some Bilstein springs. Some of the YouTube driving I have seen jumping and bouncing bad enough. I don't want to think about it too much or I will break mine too.
    That's one of the issues I had changing anything much. Factory is so reliable and Japanese steel is some of the best in the world. It would probably be more reliable leaving it alone.

    They are Australian company and I think made in China. Pretty sure Bilstein springs made in US. We'll see. If anything can tear up it will happen to me. I always liked Bilstein because they came on Toyotas so they must be pretty good. And German made.

    I was looking a hide a bumper too. I keep hitting deer right in that spot. It's 63lbs. Not sure what a wench will weigh, but did change your handling and feel much?

    Yes I'm selling my old springs. They are likely old production as they're holding up fine. Just upgrading to Dobinsons IMS and using Dobinsons coils in light of this.

    I don't know. But this is the third set that my shop has seen.

    Because of this OME springs have made it on the "Will not install" list. Which is a pretty short list to be fair.

    I used to drive Dodge Ramchargers in the day and owned 4 different years. The 93 was last year and Mexican made. It had worst steel I had ever seen. U-joint eyes on driveshaft wore out. I could push ball joints in with virtually nothing. It was nicest and the worst

    That's fair man I'm not trying to convince anyone.

    My shop advised be that if I'm moving to Dobinson IMS I would be safer using Dobinsons springs too. He then showed me three sets of OME springs that failed during normal street driving. Hopefully just coincidence... But that was enough to convince me to make the switch.

    My opinion: In this world of advertisements and paid off youtube celebrities I would put more emphasis on first hand knowledge and personal product experience.

    I made that same mistake with SPC. Paid promotions and youtubers bragged about them. They're great! Then mine failed in 8 months... I came on this forum and many users told me similar stories. If you want to discount personal experience with products then why use this forum? It is mainly just that...

    Just my opinion though! No hard feelings either way just sharing some information and personal experience.
