From FJ to 5th Gen 4Runner

What's up everyone! New here from South Carolina. Was an FJ Overlander for years, sadly the FJ died on me after 325k but happily jumped into a 2019 SR5 4Runner. Looking forward to meeting new people and discussing anything and everything.

That's a great idea! I need to get some offroad time spent in it. Still have more mods to do to get where I was with the FJ to make a good fair comparison. But will do.

I do! Not loaded on here yet but will definitely add them.

 

Oil mixing with coolant. Realized my heat wasn't working no matter what I did. Coolant was low but no leaks, refilled and all was good. About a week later, it did it again. I work for a Lexus dealership and had my main tech look at it. Said if I wanted to rebuild I could, just felt it was time to let it go and so did he. I will say, that was my favorite vehicle I ever owned and I've owned a bunch.

 

I certainly did, but must say... I do really like my 4Runner right now as well. A little better amenities.

Feel that. I'm in north Texas and essentially have to drive 5 hours to Arkansas or 5 hours to Palo Duro Canyon if I want to off road properly. Still my rig has been to Ca, Nm, Az, Ar, and Louisiana so far. Hasn't let me down yet. My next trip will be to Tennessee. Planning to camp in national forests in Alabama and Mississippi on the way there, then Kentucky and Arkansas on the way back.

 

NICE! Looking to join a club so I can start planning some trips. Doing research now on some local ones. Sounds like you have put yours though it's paces.

 

Gaia, Garmin GPS, and a winch. Spare CV, spare tie rod end, basic tool kit. Solo doesn't have to be a no-no if you take the right precautions. Just my two cents.
But I'm a weirdo who doesn't like to socialize lmfao.

Won't be solo, the wife enjoys this too and I admit, there is some solitude venturing off by yourself. But sometimes, I like the tailgate atmosphere as well

 

I made the same switch, 2014 FJ - 2023 4Runner.
Although I didn't do any off road stuff, the FJ was 100% stock when I sold it.

 

Nice! Probably the two best vehicles ever built. Super strong. I am currently looking for another FJ because the Wife now wants my 4Runner. So we will sell her Lexus and get me another FJ. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Only reason I switched over was to make it easier for the family. Daughter is older now and was getting bored with not having windows and doors of her own in the back seat!
Only had 27000 miles on it. But the 4Runner definitely feels more upscale and modern. And the seating position is sooooooooooooo much better.
