Fox 2.5 or fox 2.0

Hey everyone, new to the forum here and I’m sure there is already a thread about this but after searching I could not find it.

A little background on my build: I daily a limited that sees mainly city/highway driving, with the occasional off-road adventure, but nothing crazy. I’m looking to upgrade the front suspension. The 2 options I’m between are the fox 2.0 ifp coil overs or the fox 2.5 factory series (without the reservoirs). I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the 2.5s and how they ride on road? I’ve seen a lot about the 2.0s riding great on road. The 2.5s holding more shock oil and having more dampening capability interests me but not if the on road ride is gonna bite. Any input or personal experience with either coilover set up would be greatly appreciated.

 

If both were in my budget, I'd go for the 2.5's. I don't have personal experience with either one . I would expect ride quality to be similar or better with the 2.5s.

And, better yet, get a set custom valved to your personal preference by @AccuTune Offroad . They are well known and respected in this community, and would absolutely be my first choice if I were looking at Fox or Kings.

 

FYI you can’t upgrade just the front on a Limited unless it’s already been converted over from XREAS

 

I can't speak for Fox 2.5 but have Fox 2.0 and absolutely love it. Best balance between been too stiff (ala Bilstein 5100) and too soft such as many long travel reservoir systems. I'd do 2.0 system any day even if I had unlimited budget.

 

Interesting take thanks for the input. One reason I’m hesitant is how difficult it is to adjust the aluminum 2.0s. I’d want them set for .75-1inch of lift so I’d have to crank them down more than they come and don’t have a spring compressor. The 2.5s you can adjust on the vehicle.

 

2.0 and 2.5 IFP are going to be your cheap options, so medium performance gain over stock. FYI, adjusting ANY coilover while on the vehicle is not recommended. High risk for damage if you are not careful and experienced.

With a 2.5 RR front coilover, you will get the best of both worlds. Our tuning provides really comfortable ride quality both on and off-road. Most of these shocks we sell are for daily drivers with occasional off-road weekend trips and we have a lot of happy customers. The 2.5 like you mentioned does offer more oil, with reservoirs offer more oil and reduces overall pressure seen inside the shock while operating. These 2 features keep the shock from overheating easily which prolongs the life. Remote reservoir shocks are rebuildable & tunable. IFP shocks are much more tricky (not something we service) and may need to be sent into Fox for rebuild. My .02 for a mostly daily driver with moderate weekend off-roading would be Fox 2.5 RR front and Fox 2.0 RR rear. This combo will be super smooth

 

Having more oil does 2.5IFP shocks will run less nitrogen pressure than 2.0IFP shocks? So a 2.5IFP shock would be more comfortable on pavement? Will it be the same for remote resi 2.0 vs 2.5? the 2.5 will have less gas pressure for more comfy ride?

 

Gas pressure does not dictate ride quality, valving and spring rates do.

 

Thank you. One more question please. If any one want to run long travel you can run with sway bar and still have 11.5″ of wheel travel front? Does the +3.5 Long travel kit also allow to run the sway bar and still have 13″ of wheel travel front?

College student, can’t afford RR. Main question: is there a noticeable difference in ride quality between the 2.5 IFP and 2.0 IFP shocks?

 

I have not driven a 4Runner with those two different shocks to give you an accurate answer.

Does fox 2.0 already come install? And if it does how many inches does it provide out the box?

 

I had 2.0 as my first kit. Nothing bad to say about them. They rode alot better than my dead old 20yr old suspension. I can say the 2.0 rides great for daily usage and occasional off roading. Now the 2.5 on the other hand, I is definitely worth the extra $$$. If ever in the future you decide to upgrade to RR, they're easily doable by just having a rebuilder add them onto the coilovers, plus they'll resell quicker than the 2.0 if you were to part ways with it.

 

Nothing easily doable about that conversion, and the cost would likely make it not worth the trouble. Would require new top cap, hose, reservoir etc and labor to go along with it = $$$. You would also not be matching the same shock travel as a regular Fox 2.5 RR shock since the IFP shock body needs the space for the IFP in the body vs having it in the remote reservoir. Not something we would recommend doing.

 

Didn't know what. I've always thought all 2.5 can be easily upgraded with RR by a few add-ons. I've read of ICONs doing it so thought Fox (being a 2.5) would be similar. Good to know. Something new to learn every day.

 

My dealings with @AccuTune Offroad have gone very well.

They even put up with my rants on fulfillment delays (stinking C-19).

My slightly modified LE works great on and off road.
