There's already at least a dozen threads with this subject. Try this in a Google search:

    Tacoma to 4Runner? site:4runners.com/

In summary - scores of people have sold their Tacoma and gotten a 4Runner, almost no one regrets it. Almost everyone realizes the 4Runner is better riding, better built (in Japan) has a ton more interior room, will likely outlast the Tacoma, and they'd never go back. The next thing you'll see is all kinds of people telling you to keep your Tacoma and buy a 4Runner also - having both is better than having either one alone.

And, you won't get a consensus on which model 4R to buy. That's like asking which of your 7 kids you like more.

Sell your Tacoma and buy the 4Runner you like best. Or don't. Or keep your Tacoma and buy a 4Runner, too. Or don't. That's where all these threads end up.

Some ended up buying a Lexus GX instead.

    Happy hunting.

2024 Terra TRD Pro Terra - finally got it
    Hello,

I've owned a 2000 4runner for 20 years and ordered a TRD Pro 3+ weeks ago that should be here next week...so I like 4runners

    Tacos are great trucks too...

Dealers in DFW are asking more for decent 2023's than the 2024s around here, so make sure you do your research in your area and don't give it away to the dealer

here is one with 9500 miles for $51K...

The rear seat legroom from a Tacoma to a 4Runner is +1"
The front seats and center console for the front in both are practically the same
The width of the rear seat is the same
The rear seat in the 4Runner has a nicer arm rest
The only real difference is the rear seats recline "some"

If you are wanting to go from a Tacoma to a 4Runner for more room..... eh.... Maybe you want a Highlander. The rear seat legroom in a highlander is LOTS bigger, the foot room in the floorboard is twice the size, if you have growing [kids] you will almost certainly prefer the rear A/C controls and vents in the Highlander and the individual map lights over each of the rear seats for kids to play their toys or read or do homework without having the whole interior lit up.

Appreciate the advice. Isn’t the new highlander the 2.4l turbocharge crap that the Tacoma and Tubdra run off of now? That’s part of the 4R appeal, the bulletproof 4.0 V6 made in Japan reliability.

Well, i dont know what the current Highlander has, i know the last years model that was practically identical back to i think 2016 was running a 3.5 v6 from the also then current tacoma
A lot of folks are scared of the 2.4L 2RZ-FE in the new tacoma and what-not but i had a pretty long post about it a few weeks back. The 2.4 2RZ-FE has been in production since May 1994 and replaced the 22RE, it comes with a forged bottom end, and absolutely loves boost. Back in the custom tacos forum hay day everybody was putting together ebay turbo kits and putting 12-14psi on their 2.4 and making 250whp with nothing more than a blinky box fuel programmer and beating the crap out of their trucks and the engine held fine (even running 16-1 AFR cause the injectors were maxed out)
I think if anything, Toyota putting a turbo on that engine and doing all the corrective calibrations for knock, ect, that engine is going to be a winner for a long time. Almost anyone who is a Toyota fan remembers the fame and glory and reliability of the 22R and 22RE, i dont think very many realize Toyota made a 22RE-T which was the 22RE with a factory turbo. It was so tiny, but boy it gave that engine some pep. I dont know what the new Highlander will have but i did trade out of a 2012 Limited 4Runner into a 2017 Highlander Platinum because the interior room for our family was much bigger, floorboard and leg room in the back seat is much bigger and nicer. Kids playing sports and getting hot and sweaty will absolutely prefer the rear A/C controls the Highlander has. Maybe the current model Highlander isnt for you, maybe look for a 2-3 year old one and save a few bucks? The 3.5 engine in it was the same as whats been in the Tacoma since about 2013ish and i dont know of any problems with them.

Once the '24 4Runners are all gone, the choice will be a lot harder. The '25 4Runner & 24+ Tacoma will look alike and have the same engine. There just won't be a manual transmission 4Runner.
