    Hello,
I just bought my daughter this 2004 4X4 4Runner. Everything seems to be running strong. While driving on the freeway after a while, the break light will flicker and I lose power. If I let off the throttle and then press it again it will go. It will happen for a few miles then go away. Side note, the VSC lights are on as well, not sure if that is playing a factor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hopping I didn’t get screwed on this deal.
    Thanks

^Load test your battery and make sure the terminal clamps are tight.

Do a visual/tactile check on the brake pedal switch for looseness and wire connector corrosion.

My Tacoma did this literally two days ago. Was driving to work, ABS and VSC lights came on and the parking brake light flickered, and my speedometer needle was going haywire. Got to work, scanned it for codes, nothing came up. After work drove it home and everything was back to normal. I’m wondering if my battery is going bad.

side note I’ve never had a single issue with my Tacoma at 93k miles (2014 v6 4x4 auto) until this

Not mentioned but very important is to clean and check all grounds connections, a bad ground can cause weird things to happen.

Definitely going to go through the wiring tomorrow. Drove it about 100 miles today, halfway there it started and half way back it did it again. When it happens, I have to let off the gas pedal and then it goes. Will happen for a few minutes and then goes away. Thinking there is a bad ground somewhere. Previous own has done a lot of MOD work with lights and stuff.

Got the VCS lights off, really cool video on YouTube using some paper clips in the OB plug and cycling the key that worked. Checked the connections at the battery. Still have the emergency brake light flicker and loses power simultaneously.

You just bought the truck, what do you know about the battery? If you’re new to 4th Gens, it’s good to know that a weak battery can cause numerous oddball symptoms, for example random uncommanded rear wiper activation. Unless someone with a V8 has specific knowledge of this issue, I would start with the battery and charging system.
