I have seen a few lifts in the past guys use the FJ Cruiser lift cutting the center crossmember ?
Anyone running a lift like this , my buddy wants to do this to run 37”s with plenty of clearance .

If I understand your question correctly, I remember a guy on the forums that did a bracket lift on a brand new runner (cutting out crossmember). He ended up with horrible noise that by all indications resulted from the large change in pinion angle out of the diff and transfer case. The rear pinion angle was probably leading to noise too.

This kind of lift falls under the “extreme mod” category, because you are irreparably cutting out a piece of the frame.
You have to be “all in” committed to spending big money to sort out the rig after such a change, since there’s no going back. If a new, lower transfer case mount has to be engineered, you’d wonder if it would just be easier to do a body lift.

Your resale value would probably tank, if thats important to you.

If you’re going for clearance, by cutting the cross member and installing a different one and bringing the diff down basically defeats the purpose of having 37’s for clearance. Unless you’re going for tire clearance and not actual off-road clearance.

Considering a bracket lift is 6" and up, the lift alone does not if barely adds any ground clearance for the new crossmember plate and rear axle. The lift basically allows you to fit 35" tires and up.

Do a quick google search and you'll see that 37's has been achieved w/ only a 3" lift.
