    All,

I have a 2017 SR5 Premium. I'm trying to figure out whether the right-hand rear wheel well should include a plastic liner that is above and integrated with the mudguard. There is one on the left-hand side, but I don't see fastener holes to suggest the right-hand wheel well should have one. The OEM parts finder isn't helping me with this question, because I don't see this liner on the left OR right-hand side.

By way of back story, I had a nasty run in with a hooked bungee cord, which ripped off my mud guard, punctured my tire, etc. If I had a fender liner, I must have lost it on the road. I recovered the mud guard and I am in the process of reinstalling it. I want to get it right.

Appreciate any thoughts. In particular, if anyone has the same model, it would be great if you wouldn't mind seeing whether there is an asymmetry between the two sides.

    Thanks much!

    Carl

    On my 18 ORP:
DS rear wheel well has a plastic liner thingy. PS does not. It has a little bucket area that catches pebbles and dirt. Your 17 SR5P is probably the same.

I noticed the same thing and asked the same question on another forum a few months ago. The pictures above show how all the 5th Gens are from the factory. The color of the factory undercoating was not covering the white paint of my 4Runner, which looked really bad and made it also look as though covers were also missing. I checked multiple 4Runners on dealers lots and they were all the same. That little pebble catcher area is really annoying too.

That little bucket area is so dumb. I pressure wash it out each time, it just fills to the brim with sticks and rocks and mud, and then gets down into the rocker panel. I don't get it. I might try to design some sort of DIY flap that at least blocks big stuff from getting in there. There's a few spots in the wheel wells that collect mud like that that just don't seem very well designed.

    Anyway, /rant

Fantastic response - I really appreciate the information. Thank you all.

The "bucket area" was what made me think I must be missing a panel, and then I checked the other side and noticed the asymmetry. Glad to know that I didn't leave a panel behind on the road where I had the tire puncture.

    Thank much!

I am missing the bucket thing panel that solidifies the bumper panel. Any suggestions for where to find one, or a part number. I did an internet search and I'm sticking out. Just bought the 4runner and it's missing.

Intentional. Then passenger side is like that, apparently so that mud can get stuck in it lol.
