So I work for a major Tire distributor and just noticed in our system we created a part number for the new AT4. This usually means they will be released in a few months, my guess would be the first quarter of 24. From what my system shows me they are going to be possibly 3lbs heavier at 66 a tire for the LT in 285 and overall diameter 33" compared to 32.8". Now all that may change as we actually receive the product. However I just wanted to throw it out there since I know its a very popular tire on this site and if anyone is searching may be worth holding out.

That's disappointing. It's already one of the heaviest AT tires compared to others of the same size. Not sure why they wouldn't work on making it a tad lighter.

    IMO 32.8 -> 33in diameter gain 3lbs is acceptable.

If you don't mind listening to other side of the coin; me personally would pick a smaller 32.8in for light weight tire because I like to keep stock gears and living in mountain highways. I like to keep 50ish lbs or less for LTC tires or 46-47ish lbs for SL tires.

Again someone taking the 4Runner in rough terrain with lava rocks and what not my requirements not going to help. They would don't mind 66lbs Load E 3ply sidewall tire.

The P rated tires also seem to have gone up from 50lbs to 54.

Maybe do some testing with sharp rocks and prove that its stronger as LT tire people would go P rated tire despite its 54lbs.
Snow and Ice braking testing would also be a good area where people would buy the new improved tire.

Jesus. My P rated Toyo AT3's are over 10lbs lighter per tire. Makes no sense.

OP is talking about P285/70R17 been 54lbs per tire. So equivalent size Toyo 285s would be 47lbs.

This will be interesting to see what they have changed from the previous tire design, hopefully more sipes and maybe a bit closer tread blocks for less road noise ? I was going to buy the new Goodyear Duratrac RT I have a 45% off code but have since decided to wait and see how well it actually works on wet roads since I’ve heard so many people say the original tire was dicey in the wet ? Looking forward to seeing this new wildpeak any chance you know when it will be released?

Nothing yet on well they will be released but I would imagine somewhere in the first quarter of next year. The new Duratrac RT look like a nice tire, I have seen quite a few come in so far. I personally have heard good reviews from the old version but would not buy them myself. I have seen way too many manufacture defects in the molding process of goodyear, dunlop and cooper to even own a set of any of those.

I'll be in the market for a replacement for my Toyo AT3's next year probably. Between these and some of the other newer options it looks like it's going to be a tough decision.

But, if they actually end up being heavier than the current version, I'll pass.

    What load range?

This already exists in the Falken Rubitrek. You can only buy the Rubitrek at certain places, Sam's Club for example. I checked and Discount Tire can't get them. From what I've seen during my research (I'm about to buy tires), it's a solid alternative to the Wildpeak, with some wondering why they even make two such similar tires. Here's a side-by-side from a comparison video:

So you want it worse everywhere but on dry roads (noise)? No thanks. If I want quiet I'll buy the car tires that came on it. Also, his original post includes his thoughts on release...

You can spin it any way you want but I am not going to haul around an extra nearly 35 lbs of Chinese tires on my truck.

So it's down to Toyo AT3 or K02s for me....your thoughts?

I am not a fan of the extra weight however I will say my brother has close to identical set up on his 4R with 150k and AT3W's vs my 23 4R with 3k and KO2's and i prefer his tires. His truck feels smoother and tires are a little less noisey. I will say the sidewalls on these tires are thick they have 3 ply and "HD" protection. For those that do rock crawling they seem like it could peak your interest.

The AT3W's were heavy AF also. But, most people who use them like them. If you're more concerned about traction and durability than fuel economy, these new ones might be a good choice as well.

There are a lot of very good AT options right now. It will be interesting to see how these and the KO3 end up doing, once they're in the market for awhile.

Both AT4 and KO3 seem pretty similar in design compared to the previous models maybe a few slight tread changes and small internals. I see it every year with all vendors and if you ask me all marketing to try and boost sales saying check out our new model tires etc. Very rarely you see a drastic tread change but it does happen.

Chill, I am looking for tires for a vintage diesel Landcruiser with 88 bhp that has trouble getting out of its own way. So weight is important to me. Weight probably is less of an issue with a modern powertrain.

The KO2s that are on the truck now are 18 years old so I am going to have to replace them soon. Any ideas?

Will the KO3s be available in 31x10.5r15? DT told me they would not be.

I think the idea is to maintain a similar look and keep the good qualities of the tire while improving the bad. I'd agree that it's mostly about boosting sales. But, the reason sales are down is because the competition has caught up, and they need to improve the tire to compete.

Fun fact for alot of people on here as well.. Falken is made by Sumitomo and i always say the Encounter AT are a super underrated tire and a good chunk of change cheaper than the big brands.

On DT they are $200 a tire and they weigh as much as the Falkens. Other than that, they look good.

What would you rate as the top AT's currently for all weather condition especially rain/snow?

It seems like current top contenders are wildpeak AT3w and MT baja boss at. I have mainly been looking at AT3w's or maxxis razr at's. The at4w's look good but they gained a ton of weight and the baja boss is also very heavy. I currenbtly have KO2's and they were great when new but now <50% tread they do poorly in wet and snow. verdict still out on ko3's since theyre so new but I can't see them being much better than KO3's given same tread pattern.

Wildpeaks are still very good for those conditions. Honestly, the only complaints I've heard of them were about treadwear, and occasional balancing issues. I'm not really sure what they're looking to improve with the AT4W.

The Mickeys are still pretty new, so I haven't heard much about the snow performance. But, they look very good and everything I've heard about them so far has been positive.

If you don't mind something less aggressive looking, the Yokohama Geolandar ATG015 is a great all around tire, and probably the best I've used in snow, aside from actual winter tires.

Great point on the G015 if you're looking less aggressive, I am a big fan on their tread pattern.

Chillmatic, for those of us in the Southwest, ie AZ and S California deserts, where snow and wet weather only happens on television shows, but where scalding heat in the Summer can melt just about anything including tires....what would your advise be for this climate?
