Being I'm unlikely to drive through stump filled ditchs or boulder fields anytime soon got to wondering how many have taken off the steel engine skid plate that comes with these trucks and hung them on the wall, makes oil changes go quicker and keeps them plates shiny for next owner. If I see a need to armor up for a back country road I'm likely to put on aluminum plate anyway.

I’d keep it on just to protect the plastic oil filter housing.

Even if one does not need off road protection isn't there benefit for on road keeping stuff from going up into engine bay even if water?

Yep. A few years back I ran over a wand from a pressure washer. It went right into the curved portion of the step bar and left a quarter sized hole in it. That step bar saved a tire blowout.

Forgot to mention.....we have a full set of CBI skids. It offers some protection against cat theft too.

I seem to remember where someone, trying to save $$, modified the stock skid with an opening & panel to access the oil filter, but can’t find the post…

Yep...that's common on the Tundra side too.
