... but wouldn’t having them at least help, especially in tight parallel parking situations or where parking attendants jam cars up against one another’s bumpers to pack them into a garage? (I may be speaking very specifically about NYC, but the truck will spend some time there, when it’s not in the mountains.)

    What snickel said.

sure, it may help in a tiny bump, but most are made out of aluminum and the mount points are not substantial.

there is a light steel one out there for around $300 if you choose to go that route, but I’d certainly suggest saving for an actual slimline bumper with bullbar built in

    Thanks, all.

I do see what you mean by a "damage multiplier" in this case -- and understood about the material and mounting. I'll have to train myself not to be terribly concerned with the paint and little scratches (he says now), since eventually I think it would be great to "repaint" it with a gray bedliner material, as I have seen on a few very nice trucks. I would like to get some functionality and have been looking for bumpers that don't radicvally change the profile of the vehicle, but would allow at least for a real bar that could withstand pushing, and an extra light bar and/or winch. And it would all have to be 2021 TSSP-compliant, which is not obvious from what I am seeing.

I don’t know what vision you have, but many work perfectly fine with tss

Welcome from Arizona. I think @ jaynarik might be closer to what you are thinking about.

Great look, Jynarik. That seems very minimal and close to the lines of the truck and looks like you could rely upon it to bear some force applied. I think the 2021 earmarked by the dealer has the TSS sensor array below the “TOYOTA”, which means I think there may only be a few that don’t block its radar signal.

Unless I have heard of someone who has mounted better hardware on the 2020 and 2021 versions, I’ll wait to do anything there. Given that it’s a Pro, I’m going to be paying for that to begin with!

One thing I do think about is whether I should, from new, apply sone kind of undercoating to ward off the salt corrosion from the Mid-Atlantic / New England corridor into which the truck will be born. Any of you do that kind of thing?

I wouldn't really call that a regular bull bar but if I went with one it would be the route I'd go.
