My 2002 4Runner has 332,000 miles and has a cracked exhaust valve on cylinder 4.
This vehicle was my moms and I inherited it in 2016 after she passed away...at the time it had 129,000. I've put over 200,000 miles on it and it has been very reliable and is in excellent shape. No rust on the body or frame. I've been driving it with the cracked valve for 6 months! (part of that time unknowingly).
Before the valve breaks and grenades the engine... I want to get a re-manufactured engine and have the old girl revitalized! I live in southern Maryland and need some recommendations on sources for quality engines and parts or even someone to do the whole job.
I don't have a garage and/or tools to do this job myself or I would. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks in advance.

I posted a pic of the cracked valve... the compression on cylinder 4 is 75 psi...and its been running like that for 6 months.

I just replaced my engine with a remanufactured engine from these guys:

    https://www.japaneseenginesandparts.com/product-page/1995-04-toyota-2-3rz-2700cc-new-engine-8-port

The reason I used them is that the shop, Bothell Toyota Specialists, told me that if I was going to buy the engine through them and have them handle any warranty issues, then this was the company they would use. They'd install any engine I had delivered, but I liked the idea of just having one place responsible for warranty issues, instead of dealing with a bunch of buck-passing if things went south. They didn't have an engine on hand to build, but I ordered it anyway, and they managed to source one and send it to the shop in about 2 weeks.

Unfortunately I only have about 600 miles on it so far and can't say much about longevity or reliability. Runs well so far!

Another company I thought looked promising during my research was AAAEngine.com. Their warranty was 2 years, which was longer than Japanese Engine Inc. (12 months unlimited miles), comparable shipping/core return policy, and price (around $3600).

I did call both companies and talked to them about pricing shipping etc and what they do in the remanufacturing process. I am not very knowledgeable about mechanics but got a positive impression of both shops.

If memory serves - I'm not 100% sure of this - the Swickard Toyota Dealership in Lynnwood, WA told me they use Jarco Engines for engine swaps. I called Jarco, and they wouldn't even give me a price, saying they only sell to dealerships, not consumers such as myself. Since I was not going through a dealership that was a non-starter.

Generally when you buy a reman engine you pay a core deposit of like $500 and you are agreeing to give them a rebuildable block. You get the deposit back once they receive the core.
