I hope it's not that long, however, I've been asking a dealer about putting a deposit down on a '22 Pro and he said that he won't really know anything about the ordering window or the other trim levels until the end of July :(

Meanwhile I think Vroom will be picking my '16 up within the next week so it's going to be a long wait until a replacement arrives.

Good thing we have another vehicle.

Why would Toyota announce one trim level but not the rest for 2 months? I don't get it.

I’m on the same boat. Dealer offered to buy my 2018 but won’t take a deposit on a 2022.

There’s a microprocessor shortage. There is a metals shortage.

There is still virus all around the world.

There are still shipping restrictions going on.

I think most car manufacturers are hoping they can start making the next model year starting sometime this summer without any significant delays.

This and..........this is how they typically operate.

Since the 2022's will be largely the same, there's no reason for them to take orders until they are closer to making them.

I just found it odd that the 2022 Sport was announced but not the rest of them.

I've never followed new vehicle announcements before as my purchases are always more spur of moment and from the lot. This will be the first time I've ordered a vehicle and the first time I've been without a vehicle (still have the wife's RAV4) in 20+ years.

If the end of July is normal then that's fine. I just found them announcing one trim level but not the rest of them to be strange.

I'm wanting a MGM Pro so hopefully that helps me get one sooner.

They did the same kind of thing when they announced the new Trail, the Venture, the Nightshade, et al.

You would hear about this new addition but not hear about the other standard trims.

Reason being is because the standard trims have been the same forever.

Nothing exciting (or newsworthy) about that.

If that's the way they've done it in the past then I guess there's nothing out of the norm.

I just didn't realize that's how it worked until now.

I'm thinking it's to broaden media coverage. They'll be more news releases to come so more the auto news reports, online coverage etc. Keeps up exposure, as it were. Perhaps Marketing might feel with a new gen coming soon (?) the 22 will be a lame duck so they'll create a bit more media coverage.

I expect there'll be an announcement on the 22 Pro - esp the colour - which may or may not be part of the full trim line up announcement.

I've been told by dealers that Toyota typically releases product in for their vehicles around July. But this year and last haven't been particularly typical.

You can find on Toyota Newsroom site a MY21 4R line up press release dated July 30, 2021[edit July 30, 2020 ]. As well as the new MY21 Trail dated Nov 30 (as mentioned in another post).

Can you even order a Toyota?

Or do you just get a reservation for one of the trucks the dealer gets by allocation?

    It's a long list...
July would be pretty normal. Each model year production change over begins in August, so they will likely close the books on the 21MY pretty soon (if they haven't already) for the 22MY. I just hope 22MY is the last year of the 5th gen. I like mine, but it's time to bring out a new generation.

I keep hearing rumors about BSM and some technology package. I think BSM will be added to the higher trims and option on the lower, but I'm curious what the tech package will include. I'll be honest, I will throw my hands up in the air if they finally make BSM, dual zone climate, cooled seats, etc available as an option on a TRDORP or SR5P for the final MY and for one year only.

The BSM is not a rumor. Confirmed by a Toyota representative.

“BSM is available with the Technology Package on TRD Sport, so it’s an available option."

Last year the TRD Pro color wasn't announced until the end of June. So we will see.

I remember reading a while ago that BSM was going to be mediatory on all vehicles by 2022.

I have no idea if that is still the case or if the can got kicked down the road.

It's a good question if it will be on all trims or just some trims for the upcoming 2022 4Runner models.

If it doesn't make it to all trims this year, I'm thinking it will be on all trims next year when the 6th gens come out.

I wonder how large the current backlog is for 21' 4Runners and Tacomas ? This might affect the 22' announcement date (?) But they will have to cut off the 21's at some point. Since the 22' models are essentially the same as the 21's, maybe some buyers that ordered a 21' will end up taking delivery on a 22' ? LOL Sort of like the current Ford Bronco situation. It will be interesting to see.

Such a odd / tough time for new 4Runner purchasing! I lucked out with a Lunar Rock 4R that fell into my lap four weeks ago. Prior to that, I thought I would be the wise one and order either a 21 or 22 as soon as the 22 was revealed - when there would be a brief overlap period. At the moment no one on the outside knows what is going on with the 21's or 22's.

I did a quick website survey. There are 6 Toyota dealers in my city. As of today, there is a grand total of 9 4R's in inventory between all of them together. (No PRO's of course) And 6 of those are in transit. So that leaves a total of 3 in the entire city to test drive for someone. LOL The dealer I bought my 2021 TRD/ORP isn't even listing the 4R as an available model. LOL

Koons Toyota is located in the DC suburbs with three dealerships in MD and three dealerships in Northern VA. They are currently showing 17 4Runners and no Pro's. I don't know how many of those are in transit versus physically on their lots. When I first started to research the local market for 4R's in January, Koons typically showed around 80 4R's to include 4 - 8 Pro's among their six dealerships. I was told the inventory of 80 is a below average number of 4R's for them in a typical year.

Darcars Toyota in the MD suburbs of DC has three dealerships and NO 4R's.

Probably 20 dealerships within 75 miles from me!

After seeing the interior of the 2022 sport being the same, I pulled the trigger on ordering a 2021 SR5 premium 4x4. I’m hoping no huge refresh is going to surprise us but we’ll see. Toyota Carlsbad let me order on June 4th, last Friday. They were saying no more because the dealership itself was scared they wouldn’t be able to fulfill the orders but my salesman had his boss make an exception for me since I’ve purchased 6 cars from him.
