Hey all. I am in the 1st stage of getting a dual battery and fridge set up. There is a REDARC fridge kit (the wiring, BCDC box and battery monitor) in the garage along with a Rago 2nd battery box. The battery box will sit between the firewall and air box. There is a 3'' rubber plug with a few wires and I think a hose running through the firewall near that area, but I am hesitant to poke a hole as I don't know what's on the other side. Can I stub a wire through that plug, or should I run it some place else?

Send the wire through this grommet hole.

I checked that. There is something blocking it from the inside.

I sent a 1/0 wire through it. I think it’s just carpet. You can go up and over it if I remember right. Or through it.

Here you go: not carpet. That must have been driver side only. I remember what you’re talking about, but I was able to get the wire around it.

Why would you go dual battery? Lithium ion power centers like the Anker 555 have obsoleted "house batteries".

    1. They can be put in the 4R when needed & taken into the house/camp/boat when power is needed there. Also, you aren't carrying around the weight of the battery and accoutrements when you don't need it.
    2. They can charge via AC or solar. The 555 takes max 200 W in charging mode. There's a relatively simple mod on this board to run the oem inverter full-time @ 400 W so there's plenty of capacity to charge at rated power. And you could put a solar panel on the roof to get a dual charge system.
    3. No fishing wiresthrough the firewall.

You may have your reasons and that's good, I'm not dissing you. But at this pre-mobilization stage of the project it might pay to take a look.

I run my second battery through an isolator so I can easily jump my primary battery. Very nice option to have when camping in the middle of no where or just driving to work.

I do agree with the above and I’m probably going to do that type of setup as well, although probably with a smaller pack. The Anker 555 is $900.

Cargo space is at a premium. Getting a fridge will allow us to get rid of the two 64 qt coolers we use now. Will make packing for a trip much easier and more organized. The less stuff that's in the back the better. I'd rather have a battery under the hood than a power center in the back.

Yes, it's a pretty penny but it made great sense for me. I need uninterruptable power for some medical devices. The grid here is real soft and is unreliable. So I often have to have in home back up power.

Anyway, good luck w/ your mod.
