My previous vehicle was GMC Yukon and it slowed down noticeably when down shifting on hills. I just bought my 2019 4runner limited and getting to know the way it drives. Today, I was descending a steep hill and shifted down to 3 then 2 but didn't seem like it was slowing me much and had to apply the brake quit a bit to slow down. Is this normal for this vehicle?

2014 Neglected by the previous owners 2020 is an abused former rental... 2023 New I've been buying above my pay grade ☹️
I have had a 2014 SR5 2WD (84k) and a 2020 TRD Off-Road 4WD (but being driven in 2WD, 51k). I turn onto what would be considered a moderately steep downhill incline. Whether I coast or hit the gas, my transmission is lost. It's not really fishing for a gear but it seems indecisive. During that time, yes, I do feel like applying the brakes and the gear finally feels like it engages.

After two vehicles, it's just something I expect and I'm not worried about a problem.
