Newbie here and so far I have learned so much. Thank you for sharing your lessons learned! I recently bought a 2007 Sport 4WD for our 15 year old twins to learn how to drive on and I fell in love with it. So much so that I sold my 2021 Tahoe 4WD and plan on buying the other twin a 4Runner as well as one for myself, maybe a bit newer for me but who knows. Ive driven a few SR5's and 1 Limited and noticed a pretty big difference in the suspension on road and off compared to our 07 Sport. We live in a very hilly curvy area and LOVE the stock suspension on the 2007. We are in the county so when we do get snow/ice it can be a few days before the roads are cleared. Can someone please school me on the differences of the suspension between the 2007 sport stock suspension and the SR5 or Limited stock suspensions? Pro's cons? I've been focusing on well maintained 1 owner with 150,000 to 225,000 miles local to Knoxville Tn. Any help is much appreciated!

The sport and Limited come with Xreas suspension, shock absorbers linked together with lines and expansion canisters full of nitrogen and oil similar to a big remote reservoir shock system.
It is by far nicer on the road, it drives and handles great until the shocks eventually start leaking at some point down the road. They are eventually going to go bad and the ride quality will diminish and you are forced to swap the shocks out. On this one the "best" riding setup that people seem to most commonly recommend is using the 2012+ TRD Offroad Tacoma front shocks. This supposedly has a better spring rate for a smoother ride on the faster speed big bumps. This shock also lifts the front end up about 1'ish inches over stock. These are typically readily available online for pennies compared to most of the other aftermarket options.

All the sport and limited models have the Xreas unless its been changed out previously. The on-road manners are superior to standard shocks.

@AWKnox look under your Sport Edition at the shocks for hydraulic hoses attached to them, if no hoses then the original suspension has been replaced with a different type, most people replace them with regular shocks when they go bad because the original Xreas shocks/system is very expensive.

How many miles on your '07 Sport? That's what I have and I also liked the X-REAS suspension when I bought it at 7 years old and 96K miles, but it was shot by 150K miles. Great idea by Toyota but it's really impractical (expense and process) to replace it. If you want a great low-cost replacement using nearly new OEM parts, look into "take offs" from later model Tacomas. That's where people buy new Tacomas but want different suspensions so they sell their OEM parts on places like FB Marketplace.

Just get some FJ Cruiser rear springs to go with the Tacoma gear (they have leaf springs so that's why you need to buy some for the rear) and you're set. I spent $200 total when I first did it. I had components from as late as a 2020 Tacoma on my '07 but can't testify to fitment after that.

My details my journey through a couple of Tacoma takeoff setups to my current Eibach. It has links to the X-REAS removal process if you want to do the work yourself. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. Since we have the same year and model, my may be helpful down the line. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Bluesky 07,Purchased it with 245,000 in March of 24. XREAS are holding up well.It was a 1 owner, garaged ( seller had pics) with 54 maintenance records that was trading in for a new 4R. So Far I've only had to replace the upper and lower AC lines, door arm rests, and opted to upgrade the headlights and tail lights so all in all I'm pretty happy. Going tomorrow to look at a 06 Sport, 07 Sport,2010 Trail a 2013 Trail and a 15 Limited. Need one for my daughter and one for myself. Thanks for your input, much appreciated!
