Dented muffler pretty bad now engine sounds louder at certain times during idol or in nuetral.

The runner took two hard smacks to the muffler and now the engine at certain points during idol or in neutral sounds louder than it did before the event. I think it mainly sounds louder when the compressor turns on. Is this because of the deformation of the dented muffler??? The vehicle seems to be running fine otherwise but I'm worried something else might be wrong. It has no check engine lights on and when the muffler pipe leading to the cat was being repaired I took a good look at the under side and could not see any other visible damage.

 

Its ripped wide open on the top passengers side, before the exaust goes into the muffler.

You might find someone that replaced their stock muffler for the TRD version or vise-versa and would sell you one used.

 

Yeah just as long as I'm not having engine trouble I don't mind dropping the 600 for a new one. Guess that's just the price you pay for being stupid and not knowing your limits...

 

Well there’s yer problem lol. That was a seriously hard hit. Even if you had full skids, would that area hve even been ptotected?

Hopefully you can find a used one.

Wow, you guys are great offering up to the OP. A gently used OEM muffler is light years away better than anything aftermarket

 

Anyone near the DC area that has a nearly new used exhaust? My 21 Venture came with the TRD Pro exhaust and I don't like it. I just want to go stock.

 

I've got a brand new muffler and tailpipe (take off with 20 miles on odo) in Atlanta. Easy to ship.

 

Hope the OP is able to pick something up. As for me, seeing all these offers makes me wanna pick up a spare replacement for when my 4runner gets up there in age.
