Any recommendations for a dash cam? Would prefer one that has a parking mode if someone messes with it when it’s parked. Also? How do you do a rear camera if the rear window rolls down (Yes, I love the roll down window and it’s a reason to love the forerunner, but I am curious how to mount a rear camera).

The one thing I'm looking for is one that doesn't overheat in the CA sun. My gopro would constantly turn off and finally crapped out. I've been recommended a Garmin 57a.

As a big countermeasure enthusiast I have tested a few, back in 2014 the BlackVue was one of the best and I love my 650. But my next on my list is the new Viofo A139PRO 2CH with its improved video quality.

The majority of dash cams have pretty much all the same video quality no matter there spin, but the Viafo with the Sony STARVIS 2 definitely has the edge over most others.

I saw a video in which a person installed their dash cam in a tacoma and it was plug and play. I was looking for the wire that goes to the rear view mirror and I didn't see it like in the tacoma. How would a dash cam install be in a 5th gen tacoma? If anyone has any instructions or pictures it would be greatly appreciated.

I personally wouldn't use the wire that goes to the rear view mirror. Just get an "add a fuse" and connect it to your fuse box to Accessory power so it turns on when you drive. Super easy.

Dash cams just need power, nothing super crazy unless you are using it as a parking sensor/security. In that case you need to add protections for your battery since it will pull power all the time.

I use the viofo a129 duo. I would suggest the Battery if you're gonna use for parking mode.

Ripper I made a mistake I meant 5th gen 4Runner. I can't believe I typed tacoma twice. I was also wondering do they have a dash cam that is powered by its own battery meaning a button type lithium or something rechargeable. I really don't want to run any wires as we have just purchased an extended warranty and want something that is easy to unplug if wired or just have a self powered one if possible.

No worries, electrical is all the same. I'm sure there are some rechargeables out there but you may be giving up too much and then you have to plug it in anyway to recharge. It will be a more annoying having to charge and deplete over and over. You can always just do a GoPro.

Wont effect warranty, and once its done its super easy to just unplug if you want. Have you thought about going to a car audio shop? They can do it in less than 30min and probably cost under $150 to do the wiring.

If you really want easy, most dash cams come with a cigarette lighter plug. Cant get easer than that.
