Damaged at Port Inspection :*(

Hello. My salesperson just informed me that my TRD Pro was identified as damaged during a random port inspection. He said that Toyota will not disclose what type of damage occurred. I don't feel comfortable about finalizing the sale.

They haven't offered me anything, but to cancel my pre-purchase contract and to return my deposit and my trade-in. I am currently (for six weeks) driving their 2021 TRD Off Road Premium and love it. Is there a way to find out the damage done?

I would think they should have to divulge the damage and repair it. They should also discount it. If they don't I would walk away and try to buy somewhere else. I did temp work a long time ago for a company that delivered for gm. They document damage at every stage of delivery to determine what damage occurred where. The definitely have it recorded somewhere. If they aren't honest with you why buy from them. I'd then post a review of their poor tactics on Facebook or wherever else I could.

 

Toyota HQ identified the damage and repaired it. Toyota won't disclose the damage to the dealer.

 

Damaged, could be anything. What if - it was only a scratch bad enough to necessitate being reported? Perhaps you'd be best served to wait until it arrives? just thinking out loud

They did this to my 2001.

I kind of knew what happened because it didn’t have a Toyota windshield on it, but an aftermarket American/Chinese one.

I still bought it.

 

I tell people, "if you have to wonder, trust your instinct". Most of the time this is in regard to safety. If you have to wonder if it's safe, it's probably not. I find that way of thinking is safest in most aspects of life.

My point is hard data is what matters.

 

I'm going to buy it and flip it. I received a legitimate offer of $61.5K and only financed $55k. I think I will put another deposit on a 2023 Sequoia TRD Pro.
