My 3rd gen got totaled a few weeks back. Absolutely loved that thing I dont really want to switch to a different brand of vehicles but newer ones are not quite in my budget. I did Find a 2013 sr5 with 117,000 miles for $18,988.1 owner. Just wanting some advice is that a good deal? Anything to look out for? I’m in so cal by the way. Seems to be decent mileage since they last forever. Is 2013 a good year? Thanks in advance

That's a good price. Do your due diligence and have it inspected if you're not mechanically inclined. Hopefully there's a full compliment of maintenance receipts as well.

2013 was the last year before the body style and front end update on the SR5. If you are good with that, there's no other reason the '13 would be any different performance-wise from any other 5th gen, should all the maintenance records and close visual/mechanical inspections pan out. That's decent mileage for a 2013.

Got any photos of this 4R?

Nothing truly lasts forever, but the Gen 5's are close to that in car-speak. If the SR5 has been near the ocean, you'll want to pay special attention to the interior of the body panels, frame rails and suspension looking for rust. The mileage is low for a well-cared-for Gen5. The price is decent too. But all of that is 100% subjective depending on the overall condition of the Runner.

Order a pay-for CarFax. That doesn't catch everything, but if it was in a wreck and insurance was involved it'll be listed. You do want to know its accident history. Fender benders vs. big wreck, etc. Take it somewhere you trust and have a thorough pre-purchase inspection done. It'll cost you a couple hundred bucks but is worth it. Make sure they do the rust check I mentioned but also look at the wiring under the hood for rodent damage. That is a thing with Gen5's. Sometimes you'll find leavings in the HVAC filter in the glove box. If you find mouse poop there (one of the first places they go), you'll want to dig a lot deeper into the wiring condition.

    Good luck!

That's low mileage for a 12 year old car.
Even the OEM parts should have a lot of life left in them as they typically need replacement after 175k mile mark.
If there is no frame rust, no visible leaks in the engine bay AND at least oil change records, go for it.
The 10-13 has all the markings of becoming a classic.

    2WD,
For California that’s a fair price as long as they don’t hit you with add-ons
    I’m in a 18 SR5 4WD

The Carfax shows minor damage to the rear in May, 2021. If you still want to proceed given it's 2WD, look over the rear to make sure it was indeed minor damage. Drop the spare tire to get a better view - check the tow hitch frame crossmember isn't bent or rusted. Since the SR5 base model that year didn't come with a backup camera, make sure the parking sensors (the little dots on the bumper cover) still work.

I would inspect the motor for any leaks and request records for fluid changes and all other services done. Also check the transmission neutral sensor and that it’s not seized and the transmission shifts nicely from P to D. Aside from that the usual rust on the frame and other parts of the undercarriage. The mileage is very good for a 13 and I’m all for the OG gen5 style.

Is 5 owners a lot for that year? The maintenance seems to be kept up pretty well even with that amount if owners.

Too bad you didn't find me back in November of '23, I traded in my 2013 SR5 4WD that I had meticulously maintained towards my 23 ORP. I got just under 20k on the trade, which considering I bought it new for 29k and change 10 years prior, I was more than happy. As numerous other threads show, there's still a decent range of used 4Runners out there, you might just have to travel a bit for the one you like and be ready to move quickly.
