I got in my 3rd gen yesterday to go to work and noticed that my E-brake and abs lights were on, along with finding out that my speedometer and odometer aren't working shortly after that. I will also note that unlike other people dealing with P0500, my tachometer works.

My CEL,VSC TRAC and TRAC lights have also been on for months for an EVAP code.

I know that this could be a few different issues just from my searches across the forums, but can anyone direct me on a process for diagnosis?

I did accidentally nail a curb the day before the light came on (I was going about 10MPH at the time)

    Any guidance is helpful, thanks!

Definitely start with the wheel speed sensors particularly on the wheel you smashed. That code will go off on damaged wheel speed sensors or tranny speed sensor, the last case could be a bum ECU but I wouldn’t jump to that immediately.

id guess it’s a wheel speed sensor problem since the tach works. Good news is the part is super cheap if it’s damaged

Thank you! I will try and dig into that when I have some time. How labor-intensive is it to replace said sensor? I haven't found many good youtube videos on it.

    Thanks.

Before you run out and buy the part I’d spend some time inspecting the wire and plug on the sensor to make sure nothing rattled loose or broke

Update: I pulled my ABS codes yesterday and the abs light stayed solid.

I believe this means that I have an issue with my ABS ECU, can anyone confirm?

Although possible, I think the ABS module going bad would be down the list on possibilities, I’d check all the ABS wheel sensors to make sure they’re properly seated, especially if you just changed them all. Also check the wiring, and unplug the battery for the night. The K.I.S.S. Principle is definitely in effect with these ol’ boys

here’s another thread of similar issues you can peruse

Can you enlighten me on the K.I.S.S. Principle? I’m unaware of this haha

also, I am referring to the ABS ECU (next to the brake pedal) not the module

Thanks. I’ll mess with the wheel speed sensor first and make sure it’s seated correctly after installation, and also check the trans speed sensor.

would the trans speed sensor affect the Speedo though? Because my tac is still working.

    Thanks.

Likely should be the wheel sensors, test em out and make sure they are clean and well seated. Check the ABS fuses too

Been a while. Got busy and did not have the time to try and fix the issue.

I replaced the rear wheel-speed sensor today (On the side where I hit the bump) and it did not solve the problem.

The next step will be to replace tranny speed sensor unless anyone else has a better direction for me to go in.

Succes! I ordered a new TRC VSC Control module (Part number 89540-35270) and the Speedometer/odometer came back immediatly. $220 later and I am able to use cruise control again!
