Anyone that has looked knows it is hard to get right now. The bad: +2k over sticker. The good: offer on my 18-month-old truck is 2k over purchase price. Have one day to decide. Before you say its a no-brainer, consider I would be taking a sticker-to-sticker hit of 15k less 7k cash to me, or 8k.

If I understand your post, you're making money on the sale of your truck (sounds good) but you'd be spending more money overall cause the ORP is 8K more than you'll net (maybe not so good?)

So I guess my question would be, what makes an ORP worth 8K more than your truck? What does it give you that you aren't getting from the truck?

As per the vehicle status it's an 06 v8 4runner (Probably purchased pre-owned 18 months ago). In addition to the new tech & safety features, OP will gain little more fuel range with the 4.0 v6 vs v8. I bet 5th gen is slightly bigger vehicle as well.

Pre-covid I commuted in a sedan. I sold that at a nice price to lighten up my fleet, leaving me with a new truck and an old 4Runner. I thought I would upgrade the 4Runner for resuming the commute coming up later this year. In the process of that research, I surprisingly discovered they are price gauging on the MSRP, giving me a fair offer on my truck (thinking I might sell it now and replace it later, or maybe live without it), and an outright insult on my 4Runner, at which price I would be a buyer all day long everything stock, V8, AWD with center locker, 82k, tow 7k lbs, new brakes, exhaust, etc. I guess the market for it is low due to its age. The previous poster is correct, the look and feel of a 2021 SR5 which I test drove, is a lot bigger than my 2006, not what I expected. The look over the hood of the new SR5 feels much more like my truck, than my 4Runner. Add to that the ORP is not even here, and lots of things could change before might arrive. My thinking now is to keep what i got and just keep the old 4Runner in top shape at any cost. I should add what I use the 4Runner for is towing, driving on the beach (not joy riding, but getting boats in and out), forest roads, the occasional pole line, and the surprise snow storm, and my go-to when I anticipate tight parking. My truck is good for hauling and highway cruising and can do everything the 4Runner can but is not nearly as maneuverable as the 4Runner, nor as fun to drive off-road.

What is the make / model of your truck?

If 2k is going to be an issue, how about an OR instead of an ORP?

You can still find any 4Runner at msrp if you look hard enough. Even the pro

I’d say expand your search even out of state
