Clicking/ popping noise after motor is turned off

    Drove home from work just now. Usually it makes a little tapping noise then subsides. Before walking in the house today heard the crackling/ popping noise but it sounded like popcorn heating up.

    Could that be from the heat of the motor & exhaust cooling down? Video linked of noise:

    Sounds like the catalytic converters and heat shields crackling due to thermal contraction. Very common on all vehicles made in the past 25+ years.
