    1st time poster…

Original owner of a 2014 4Runner limited. About 2 or 3 years ago (during COVID when car sat for extended periods) I noticed my the vehicle would not illuminate the D when in drive on the dash. I can go thru P, R, N but blank for D. After driving for a few minutes, the check engine and Trac Off would come on. Checked the gas cap and it only appears to happen when the car sits for more than a day. The car runs fine but a little tough shifting from park to drive. Typically after a continuous driving the lights will go out and the D appears on the dash when in drive. Had the dealership and a local mechanic have a look and I never received a satisfactory response or fix. Any recommendations on how to solve this for once and for all? Thanks.

No gremlins there. Transmission selector switch went bad. Use wheel brush to clean trans switch shaft and PB to slide switch off without damaging shaft.

And check for "green" corrosion inside switch plug.
