I haven't done it on my 4Runner, but I've done it with '04 Jeep Wrangler. It worked fine, but there are a few things to be aware of:

    1) they stick out pretty far, so bear that in mind when you rounding tight corners.
    2) they may block the headlights. On a 4Runner it might be less of a problem, but on my Wrangler where the headlights are much closer together than the 4Runner it was annoying.
    3) while not a big deal they are in front of the radiator and can limit airflow a bit. The Jeep didn't have a problem, but it did run a little hotter.
    4) If you have the radar up front, that might be a problem. I'm not sure my '20 would like the radar being blocked.

Just my experience and observations, but on a different vehicle.

All valid points, but for #2 it's irrelevant, not like the 4R headlights project any light further than illuminating themselves and nothing else...

Yeah, with light output equivalent to a handful of angry lightning bugs it can be hard to see past the hood after sundown. That said, my '04 Wrangler was even worse.
