I originally bought an Alpine iLX-W650 because it was highly recommended on these threads. The sound was great but I didn't like the way it looked because it left a gap on the left side (I could've added washers to center it a bit more but it still would not have looked right). I also didn't realize how much not having a volume knob would annoy me - each time I wanted to adjust the volume (which turns out to be a lot) I had to take my eyes off the road and find the button.

I swapped the Alpine for a Boss BE62CP and couldn't be happier. It honestly kinda looks like it belongs in the car because the edges are flush with the console. It also has a matte screen so there isn't any glare which was an issue with the Alpine since the area for the stereo sits lower. I've found the sound to be just as good as the Alpine.

Anyways, just wanted to share because I was looking for photos when I was doing my research. Hope this helps!

I have the Alpine iLX-W650 and love it. Sure it may have the gaps around the sides which I don't really notice myself but I love the radio. I will agree that it sucks when trying to turn it down and having no knob but that's the whole reason of having a 7" flush screen. I got it for the tuning and extra goodies I can use since I do have a system in mine, not done but almost. The BOSS radios is a decent model as I sell it's sister brand Planet Audio where I work at. The reason those look more like stock is because the body is US Spec but the front face area is a bit oversized which makes it look OEM. I'm gonna buy this from Metra come Tax Time and it may be something you may be interested as well since 3rd Gem 4runners did not come with steering wheel controls. https://axxessinterfaces.com/product/RFASWC It's a universal RF steering wheel control kit. If you are interested I can see how much it would cost for you. It will be less than the listed MSRP since we are direct distributors.
