Have a ‘22 4Runner. Any long trip, the gps will completely drift from the route and never get back onto the route when plugged in with CarPlay. Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze all experience this issue. Unplugging my phone fixes it one the phone itself, but once plugged back in, it drifts off the route again. The in-vehicle navigation works fine, and stays tracked. It will literally show me driving over rivers and stuff on the head unit, lol.

Recently found out the issue is caused by my radar detector when it is in use. But this issue only happens in the 4Runner and not my other 2 cars. Not sure if both use similar frequencies causing interference, or if the GPS in my radar detector is causing issues. The Escort Live app doesn’t show any GPS drift though.

If the in vehicle nav is fine I’d want to say the issue is with your phone. I personally use CarPlay every day and I have 5,5k miles and not a single issue with it. Today I went in an area with no service and still was spot on.

i use Apple Maps or waze most of the time. I’ve used google maps only a few times

I don't think I would rely on phone GPS. Ive taken CO -> Wyoming -> South Dakota with my 2021 built in GPS and it had no problems.

If you are using phone GPS with no cell service area make sure you have offline maps downloaded. When I use android auto Google maps locally it worked good. No complaints. Traffic updates were better than built in GPS (with cellular service).

Still highly suggest use built in GPS for long trips. I really trusted my old 4runner GPS where the data is in MicroSD card. Not sure how the new 2021 GPS work but still was very good.

Were you able to figure out what went wrong? I am having the same issue at the moment. Both navigation system drifts as well as my phone whenever it’s plugged in to apple play. There’s also a cross over “gps” on the bottom left corner of the screen.

Having the same problem with my head unit. Apple Maps will drift off every few minutes, same problem when using the built in navigation without CarPlay. The problem still occurs when I removed my radar detector and dash cam unfortunately.

I’m on the newest firmware and cannot figure out how to hard reset the unit. I know the issue isn’t with my phone itself. When unplugging the phone from CarPlay, maps immediately snaps back on route with no further issues.

Anyone know of a possible solution?

Hard reset of the head unit is accomplished by pressing and holding the on/volume knob.
