i was looking at the Carista website and just wondering about all the mods it can do. What do people think? The website is a little simplistic and I’m not sure how it all works. On my 2019 4R I would like to be able to roll up all the windows with one button maybe have it raise the window when ever I lock the car. I was also hoping that I could add back in the rear window open function (maybe close also).
    Thanks

Yup. That’s how I found the name of the app. But it does say much. Someone indicated that there is a list of things that can be changed but I can only find the list on the website. Still lots of questions. Don’t see the problem ask if people have been using it. And how they are using it.

Has anyone used the Carista on a 2020+ models with smart key? Can it be programmed so that the rear hatch window is opened and closed from the remote?

I've used it on my 2020 w/smart key and I *think* you can. Let me plug it in tonight and see what it says. I don't have the subscription anymore, but I think it will still let me see all the options.

As far as the list of options, I will say the list was different for my 2020 than our 2018.

I have a 2019 and the Carista app and dongle and have ability to do Toyota’s. You can set it to roll the windows down on the 4Runner but not to roll back up. Carista does a lot, seatbelt chime off, how long lights stay on, volume of chirps, etc. the links 4runningMan gave is the list. I think it was worth the purchase, for what a dealership would charge you every time you wanted to change something. It also was a good ice breaker at meet ups and off road rally’s. cause everyone wanted me to do their rigs, which I was happy to do. (Did a lot of Tacomas). I also changed stuff on my mother-in-laws 2020 Rav 4, and when I worked for Toyota dealership all the salesmen would have me change stuff on their cars. I guess a could have charged $$ but it was fun to do, and folks appreciated it. If you lived closer to me I would let you use it, rather than make the purchase. I was lucky that I got it when it first came out so I got the lifetime update software that lets me do any Toyota vehicle.

I have one for my 2020 ORP. I turned off the lock and unlock chirp and seatbelt warning chime. I know though that it can do a lot of other things. I just haven’t taken the time to really go through it all.

So, maybe I am missing something here, but after buying the adapter for $30, you will need to pay $50/year to keep the mods going. Wouldn't it be more cost effective to go to the dealer and for a one-time fee have them perform the customizations?

you get 30 days for free. There’s really nothing you’d want to modify again once you set it up. And if you wanted to, you could just use someone else’s phone to do another free trial

Yup that sums it up. Also the success rate with dealers altering this stuff is not good. Most will not do it due to liability.

Oh so after you make the mods with the adapter and free trial, you don't need Carista anymore? So really, the mods will only cost you $30?

Correct. Once you set things how you like, it stays that way (even after your Carista sub expires). Assuming you’ve got things set how you want them, you’ll never need Carista again.

I looked through the options and here is what I found for beeps/dings. One of these days when work is slow I'll have to write out the whole list of options.

    Dings & Warnings
    • Seat belt warning ding (driver) - enabled/disabled
    • Seat belt warning ding (front passenger) - enabled/disabled
    • Ding when key is left in the car - enabled/disabled
    • Ding when key is out of the car and ignition is on - yes/no
    • Remote low battery warning - on/off
    Locking: Beep & Blink
    • Beep when locking/unlocking with remote - yes/no
    • Volume of beep when locking/unlocking
    • Blink turn signals when locking/unlocking with remote - yes/no
    Locking: Doors and Alarm
    • Unlock doors via remote - mult. door options
    • Unlock doors via physical key - mult. door options
    • Unlock doors via smart key - mult. door options
    • Max number of consecutive lock/unlock cycles via touch sensor - # of times
    • Warn (beep) when door can't be locked because it's still open - yes/no
    • Warn (beep) when a window is still open when locking doors - yes/no
    • Warn (beep) when sunroof is still open when locking doors - yes/no

Would like some idea on my 2020. My phone, and the app, connects to my ELM327 bluetooth adapter. Then it goes to "Checking your vehicle for available customizations" and sits there forever at 13% and never, ever, moves. I tried it for 45 minutes and it will not progress beyond that. Any ideas?

I kinda remember having the same problem when I first used mine. Try deleting the app, then reinstall app, then do a hard reset on your phone.

For some reason I had to run the diagnostics option to get it to connect, then I was able to do customizations. I got all the modifications I wanted except one - I asked it to delete dings when the key is away from the ignition. It dings anyway. Anyone else have this issue?

Ok, for my 2020 SR5P I was able to accomplish most of what I wanted:

Seatbelt chime off for both seats

One push of the unlock button on the remote unlocks all doors

One touch of either front handle unlocks all doors

Shift to Park unlocks all doors; shift out of Park locks all doors

The one thing I can't do, despite there being an option for it, is to disable the damn beeps when the truck is running and you exit the truck with the keys in your pocket. I emailed tech at Carista and have not heard back.

I will note that one option I hoped to see, and didn't, was to disable the beeps when the engine is running and you open or close the tailgate. Man that's stupid - three beeps when you open it, three more when you close it.

Otherwise it was money well spent because these things bothered the heck out of me for the last 10 months. By the way, I used a generic ELM327 bluetooth contraption from Amazon that I use with my Torque app. The Carista module is not needed. You do pay $10 for a month of use, but it's better than $30 for the Carista module and a free week of use.

The seatbelt light still will come on if you don’t buckle up.

Quick follow up - I emailed tech support to let them know the option to turn off dings when the key is out of the truck is not working. I got an email within the hour asking me to run the debug scan and send them the results so they can fix the issue. Pretty impressive. Hopefully they are able to get it working.

Any update on this? Did they get back to you and say they are enabling more options now? I have a 2021 TRD Pro and I want to adjust the auto headlight sensitivity as I have windshield tinted. Are any of the other options working on the 2020 and 2021 4runners since we have the smart key system?
