I have a 2021 black 4runner nightshade and bought a GarlinKit Remote Carplay device so I don't have to plug my phone in (for carplay) every time I enter my vehicle. It connects to bluetooth, then immediately disconnects. Anyone ever try one of these? Maybe it's just not compatible but thought I'd ask the forum. Thanks in advance for any feedback! :)

We have one in my wife's Crosstrek. Haven't had that problem.

I've been using this same unit for over a year in my '21 4Runner. I had some sporadic issues with connectivity months ago but iOS updates to CarPlay seem to have fixed it. Are you running the latest iOS?

Interested in experience with this unit for my ‘22. Still reading so many mixed reviews, but it would be nice to connect my phone without it charging when my phone is almost fully charged already.

Been using this unit for over a year now and it’s generally good; slightly laggy (when advancing tracks) and some funky UI from time to time (buttons on the display remain highlighted). Once in a great while it fails to automatically connect to my phone but it’s rare.

Biggest issue I’ve had is using the remote start: after starting the engine remotely, and when my phone is close enough to connect; then, when I open the door to get in the truck and the engine shuts off, the BT connection won’t “release” so when I restart the engine, my phone won’t reconnect. Restarting the head unit and cycling the phone from Airplane Mode and back usually fixes it.

Verdict: minor or issues are worth it for the convenience of wireless CarPlay.
