So I bought a 93 4runner and was on my to the gas station on the freeway I missed my exit and ended up running out of gas on the side of the freeway I tried to put gas in it and couldn't get it to start after putting a few gallons in it so I ended up thinking maybe we flooded it and waited put more gas and nothing so I towed it home put more gas and nothing, so then I was told it's probably the fuel pump logical thinking I figured yeah but I had someone look at it anyways they ended up replacing my distributor cap and fixing up my timing I had no clue he messed my timing up so I went ahead and replced the fuel pump and couldn't get it to start went over everything and found that my timing was messed with to I bought a timing gun and went through the steps to try to place the timing at the top try to start then tap it until I either get it to start or reach the bottom, and nothing. I am a single mom of two and work construction full time I know a tiny bit about working on cars my kids dad was a mechanic and I've worked at jiffy lube as a lube tech I know that's not much but I have learned a bit so I'd rather figure this out myself, does anyone maybe have a idea of what it might be that's stopping me from getting it to start?

How much gas do you think you have in it right now? Are you getting fuel to the injectors? You may have burned out the pump, clogged the filter, or damaged the injectors. I would check to see if you are getting fuel pumping first. Also make sure you have at least 5 gals in the tank. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

These fuel pumps use the gasoline for two things. Beside the pump needing to pump the fuel the gasoline lubricates the internal workings of the pump and helps remove any heat generated by the electric motors windings and armature. So when you run this type of fuel pump out of fuel it will keep running and can seize up and stop working if run long enough with out the fuel surrounding it. That would be my educated guess as to what has happened to your fuel delivery system.
