Can I plug Evap vents on fuel tank?

I recently discovered that one of the evap lines headed to the evap canister has rusted off of the fuel tank leaving an open hole in the top of the tank. I also discovered that the other lines are rusted through in other places. I am wondering if I can just plug the hole on the tank with a patch.
In my state my truck no longer needs to meet emissions so I'm not concerned about actually using the evap system for emissions purposes I am just concerned about safety and any possible negative side effects if I were to plug one or all of these evap lines.

Note: my charcole canister is located in the back above the spare tire, not in the engine bay like some other 3rd gen 4runners.

I'm aware that this is no joke given how flammable gas vapor is.
I am on a long distance road trip right now so I am hoping to spend as little time and money fixing it.

If it's an evap line, plug away.
