I have gone from wanting a Tacoma to a 4Runner, and oscillating between a Pro or a Off Road Premium. Like many posts and debates over the Pro vs ORP, I am wrestling with this choice. I have become pretty well versed in the pros and cons and am inclined to get a Pro. I feel the Pro has $5,000 - $6,000 in upgrades for a $10,000 - $12,000 bump in cost. To help defray the cost, I am self employed and can write off approximately 40% of the cost which in my head helps justify the higher Pro cost. I realize the ORP makes the most sense!

Anyway, a dealership 40 miles away has a Pro in MGM for $51,984 (2 days on lot). MGM is my preferred color of the four current color choices. But, I am not in a hurry! So, as I continue this internal debate of yes, no or maybe so - I am partially inclined to wait to see what colors will be available in 2022 for the Pro or ORP and what new Mickey Mouse shit will be added to the 2022.

I am going to check the Pro out tomorrow (if it is still there) and see what they will give me for a trade in on a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with 90,000 miles. Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

You certainly don’t want to have buyers remorse so maybe you should wait if you think there might be a special color you’ll regret not having. I’m sure gray will be available.

MGM along with Black and White appear to be a constant in the Pro color choice. I am hoping that Cement will return in the OR or Pro (unlikely). Cement is everywhere on the Tacoma.

The only issue with waiting is how much harder will the 22' models be too find? Right now we know toyota isn't having an issue with Chips for the t4r but 6 months from now, who knows. I was originally going to wait for a 22' model but once I got to looking I decided when I found one I was buying it. Took me a solid month looking everyday 500 miles out to come across the one I bought. They are selling quick.

What trim were you looking for?

I am located in the MD suburbs of DC and there are probably 25 Toyota dealerships within 60 miles of me. Obviously the Pro's sell quickly or are already spoken for before they arrive. The 4R's are selling quickly here and the inventories are low, but there appears to be a pretty constant revolving door of newly arriving inventory as well. The ORP's are available for reasonable time frames (1 -2 weeks). I see a lot of Limited's on the local roads.

I was looking for and ORP in magnetic gray. I finally found one up by you at Toyota if it Springfield, picked it up on Sunday. Most dealers I called within my state were an 8-13 week wait. I got real lucky with the one I found, they had 3 ORP come in last Thursday. One was immediately transferred out, one a guy came from new York and then I put a deposit on mine Friday morning and picked up Sunday.

Crazy thing is I had an easier time finding the PRO version.

I have been tracking the MGM Pro's and ORP's in our area. There seems to have been a lot of activity recently with short days on lots, but they seem to be readily matriculating in and out!

Where did you travel from and did you pay below MSRP?

I'm down in Virginia Beach area, so that was a 3hr 200 Mile drive. That dealer also went below msrp for the 4 runner. One of only 3 dealers in the whole state of Virginia, I called/emailed them all when I was looking.

IMO buying a PRO in anything but the exclusive color is kind of silly, that's the one thing that really differentiates it from other models. It will also help resale, if that's a concern.

If MGM is your preferred color, the TRD OR is the one to get from a value standpoint.

    Just my .02.

I agree with you which is why I am conflicted about this.

The Pro roof rack differentiates it from the other models, but I actually despise the Pro roof rack and would probably remove it immediately!

Resale is not a consideration! I plan to keep it for at least ten years. I like the idea of a upgraded stock vehicle that limits my need or desire to modify it on some level. Nor am I technically or mechanically inclined. Thus, wasted time and expense in the decision making and implementation of the mods.

I'm with you on the pro roof rack, not for my liking at all and i would have removed it as well. My wife initially really liked the pro but as others said once we started looking at it ORP was the better value for us and we will just mod it to our liking.

I have a Lunar Rock Pro on order right now. I'm in love with the color, so that's why I ordered it. If you're leaning towards a MGM, I'd bet you're going to be safe to wait for the 2022 color to be announced and then buy a 2022. Really the only downside to that is you have to wait :)

I would love to know what the new 2022 Pro color will be, but I prefer the MGM at this time. I don't know if there will be any new wrinkles like the improved headlights and headset in 2021. I'm not in a hurry, but am driving myself, my wife and kids crazy with the amount of time I spend analyzing and laboring over this pending decision. They are "alright already" about this!

I'm sure they'll improve something, who knows if it would be worth waiting over though. A color I'd love to see for the 2022 Pro color is the black cherry pearl they had on the FJ Cruiser. I've seen a lot of people guessing it will be yellow, brown, or that magma orange(?) color they had for the FJ Cruiser as well. It sounds to me if you see a good deal for a 2021 MGM, you might as well go for it.

A good deal on a Pro appears to be paying MSRP for it - which is absurd!

I managed to order ours at $1500 off of msrp, but I think I got very lucky. You can get a lot more off of msrp with the other trim levels. Pros just sell like hotcakes, so the dealerships know they can get away with it

I have a feeling the 22 PRO will include turn signals on the side mirrors since the Pros in Canada, and ORPs already have them. I find it weird that the Pro US version does not have them...
But yeah like you, I pretty much had the same dilemma. I was debating between ORP v Pro, since I too am not mechanically inclined, nor do I want to upgrade a new vehicle & void warranty. I understand ORP is cheaper, but if I were to buy shocks, new tires, pro rims, a new rack, and include installation, I imagine it will come close to PRO pricing anyway.
But in my case, I actually do love the Lunar Rock color, which is why I'm getting the Pro, and because it is enough for the off-roading I intend to do.
But yes I'm also wondering what other upgrades they will include? I imagine they will increase the price as well due to the demand.

Definitely a very similar scenario, with the exception of me being indifferent about the Pro color of the year choice for 2021. I could wait and still end up with a MGM Pro or ORP in 2022. Tires, wheels and suspension alone would probably be $5,000 - $6,000 with a good suspension.

The MGM Pro that I was going to see today, sold about an hour before I was due to arrive. Four days on the lot. Glad I checked with the sales rep before driving there 45 minutes away.
