Hi! I have a 1986 SR5 4Runner in very good condition. Currently, it has mis-matching original bumpers (a chrome and a painted). It was never set up for the step bumper, but I was wondering whether the basic and step bumper used identical mounts and brackets, or whether I should just seek a basic- chrome style replacement bumper.

    Thanks for your assistance!

I have an 85 SR5 with the step bumper in the rear, and I'm certain that a straight bumper and the step are interchangeable without any additional hardware.

As long as the step bumper is from a 4Runner and not a pickup.
