    Hey there,

my name is Jason and I am brand new to this forum. Actually I am brand new to any forums. I just purchased a new 2024 4 runner TRD PRO. I am looking at my first mod to be rock sliders as for I like the look better than steps or running boards. There was neither option on the vehicle when I purchased last week. Any suggestions on what direction I should go? I am not an extreme off roader but do love to get dirty. I have looked at white knuckle off road and kinda like those. Any input or help would be greatly appreciated. I’m in San Diego if anyone is in the vicinity would like to get connected and have some fun now that I have time I’m retired. Thanks again and I hope everyone has a happy new year!!

And my heart is not set on sliders being the first mod. If there is a better route from experience please share. I have ordered a k & n cold air intake as well. It’s the 63-9034 is what I ordered if that is the wrong one or if I should go a different route please advise. Again this is my first build so super excited and clueless at the same time. Thanks again for any help everyone !

Thank you. What’s the new trend? Think that just went over my head, but that is why I am here looking for help and guidance. I have no problem asking for help or guidance especially when I don’t know the best routes to go yet.

Welcome Jason! There is a sticky(pinned to the top) Sliders thread in the Armor forum that would be a good place to start.

    https://www.4runners.com/threads/sliders.10023/

There's going to be 3 or 4 options of every mod that folks here swear by, a few outliers that other folks swear by, and if you're lucky maybe a consensus on 1 maker to stay away from. Look at pics, decide on a style and price point, and pull the trigger. Good luck!

What’s up San Diego! Glad to see another 619er here.

What do you want in sliders? Looks? Protection? Step to get in vehicle? All of the above?

I ended up with the OEM version from
Toyota. Some hate on them but to me they are perfect. Cheaper than most aftermarket options and you can buy just one if you damage one and need to replace. I didn’t need a step and like that these are low profile and tucked away. They are steel and bolt to frame. Easy to install and provide decent protection.

Yessir 619! Thank you for the reply! This is exactly what I was looking for. Nothing crazy, simple and easy. Did you install yourself or did you have the dealer install? I’m stoked I reached out on here. Hopefully they have in stock I’ll pick up today. Do you have the part number by chance? Did u get from a dealer here? I’m in pt loma any other pics would be great! Just waking up brains a lil scattered. lol just excited. Did u also do an intake by chance? Thank you again!

Found them! Now to see if Toyota around here has them. Lol. I was able to order the intake as well. Now to see how well my auto mechanic skills are or unless you have a preferred shop locally. Would love to see your build one day if we are ever near the same area. I am sure I will have a ton of questions and getting opinions as for I am super indecisive haha. Thanks again for all ur help.

I would hold off on the K&N warm air intake for now. Do a little more research on the forum before you fully commit to it…

As to sliders, I went with the step type from 4X Innovations

but I really like the look of the angled ones that hug the body closer

Welcome. Any reputable company that sells frame mount sliders will be good. Just wait for a sale and buy a set.

Installation is pretty straight forward. Use a floor Jack or second person to help hold the slider while you put about 10-15 bolts in on each side.

I would hold off on any cold air intakes, unless you are looking for more sound. There will be no performance gains and possible some performance loss.

Welcome…. Missing my SD right… moved to Chicago for work. Grew up in Poway lived there 36yrs since when Poway use to be 619! I 2nd the K&N… not a hot road that needs max flow. K&N filters let in a lot of particulates…. I’d stick with WIX.

Right on I am starting to see the trend here. Man I spent time in Chicago for boot camp. Sorry but I’ll stick to the 619. Thanks again!

So what I hear you saying it’s a 6 or 12 beer project once I pick up the sliders and you have time to cruise by.

Bolt on’s are easy… use a floor Jack and Jack stand. Depends on how many beers you can pound in an hour:cheers:

The 4Runner already has a cold air intake. I think it's a huge waste of money. And welcome!

Haha. Beer good! I’m in LJ so not too far from Pt Loma. If you really need help let me know. My rig in the body shop for another week due to operator error.

Oh man - I can feel the burning excitement all the way up here in Alaska. Actually, I get it - I've had my new rig for 6 weeks - and went through the same phase. One piece of advice (for what it's worth). Start slow and start small. Take the time to figure out not only what you think you want, but also what your usage dictates. Big changes - usually require more big changes. e.g. New 4Runner owner buys new skid plates (140 lbs), rock sliders (100 lbs), a roof rack (80 lbs). Then decides they want a front bumper and a winch (120lbs) - and realizes that now they need to upgrade the suspension because of all of the additional weight - at a couple of grand. Then looks at the new stance and says - "I can put a rear bumper on with a swing away spare tire carrier to improve my ground clearance (130 lbs). And I want a roof top tent (100 lbs). And a refrigerator for camping - which ends up meaning a second battery gets added to the mix - oh, and an onboard air compressor... " And then re-gearing to deal with all the additional weight...

    You get the drift.

Great and useful upgrade - LED's for the interior lights (go fancy if you want with Meso's red/white combos).

Totally agree! The factory rock rails where perfect for me too. I didn't want/need a step either and didn't want something sticking out unnecessarily far that I needed to step out over. Frame mounted, reasonably heavy duty (without being too heavy), low profile and tucked nicely to the 4R. At $600 installed I'm very happy with the solution.
