Brake pad life

My last brake pads last only 25K! This was my first time using Akebono ceramic pads with new rotors. Previously the pads were lasting around 70K. In fact the original pads on the car lasted for 100K. I figure how/where the vehicle is driven, has a significant factor but I am wondering how others are seeing for their brake pad life and whether they have had experience with Akebono. I am now back to OEM for the brake pads and rotor.

 

Did they wear evenly? If so, maybe just softer brake pad material.

I rebuilt my rear drums (new cylinders, hoses, fluid) and greased all the rear mechanicals and made sure they were adjusted as perfectly as I could get them. Seems like they grab a good bit more than they used to. The shoes were not worn much so I didn't replace those. It's possible your rear drums aren't doing much work at all compared to when the car was younger.

I had Autozone lifetime Gold pads...got like 3 sets for free after the first set. The current ones are loose and make clacking sounds when I take off and when I stop. I'm going back to OEM.

 

I know that in my 1st gen Tacoma, the front pads always wear prematurely. The passenger side always wears faster than the driver side, so it may be a caliper or pin issue.

 

Things aren't made like before.

Good lucking finding pads that last 70k now days.

 

Depends on how many times you lend your truck to your 17 year old kid.

Depends on how often you go from 100mph to zero.

Climate...etc.

 

The pads are evenly worn on both sides and wheels. Anyway I ended getting a set from my Toyota dealer. I guess going forward I'll need to check them at 10K intervals.

 

All depends how you drive. My Tacoma still has the stock pads at 95k miles.

 

Your experience is consistent with my OEM pads

 

A couple of more factors. Did you change from highway to city driving? When you see red traffic lights in the distance, do you coast to them or accelerate and brake at the last possible second? That makes a huge difference in the life of the pad as well.
