Both tailights work when headlights are on but my brake lights don’t...fuses seem fine...any ideas...going to check bulbs but suspicious that both don’t work

Do your brake lights work with your headlights off?

I'm guessing a 88 4R has dual filament bulbs. So the brake light is not the same as just the headlights though it is coming from the same bulb.

I say check fuse first not sure if its on the same fuse or not.

You are correct they do have dual filaments. The fact that he said with the headlights on they don't work makes it seem like they work with the headlights off. Which wouldn't be a filament issue. Could be a brake light switch as well of they don't work at all.
