My name is James, I just bought my first 4Runner. It's a blue 2008 with 100,000 miles running a v6. I'm excited to see what I can do with it and what kind of upgrades are out there. Right out of the gate I was impressed with the oil filter being positioned on top of the engine. Yall fill me in on some secrets and hacks for these things.

The oil filter base has a half of catch can with a nipple underneath which a 3/8” hose fits over perfectly. I use about 3’ of hose and snake it down to the oil recycling container, so when you spin off the oil filter the oil gets caught in the catch can and exits down to the recycling container. I just break the oil filter loose and leave it a minute or two before spinning the filter off all the way. Pretty trick setup, thx Toyota. Welcome to the forum.

That loop that swings up and out from the rear of the center console is to hold a trash bag, or so I hear.
