Black back background on rear chrome

I have a Silver SR5 2021 and got the blackout letters (high quality), but after putting them on for a test look (without removing the adhesive) I think I might hold off. They offer much lower fidelity than the chrome.

Instead, I like the look of the back emblem/4runner text that is chrome with the black background. I believe it what comes on the TRD Pro.

Any mod out there worth trying?

 

I painted mine to match my wheel color... Titanium silver. Not the best pic but it matches. Im a chrome hater...

 

Bleach takes chrome off and then you can paint them whatever color you want

It sounds like you already got the black overlays? And didn’t like that they made the letters look bloated? That’s the same reason I stripped them be painted them. All the overlays were too thick and looked kind of dumb. I guess you could try plastidip as well although I’ve never had good luck with it

 

Yeah, They are blocky. Would be awesome to find the black backing. I don’t mind chrome as much as I mind them being washed out by the Silver color paint. Good for cooling during sun but no good for chrome.

The TRDs get the black background while the SR5 and Limited are painted. I have black letters on mine and I agree it seems plain and boring. I've thought about swapping the black piece for the painted version.

My Off Road has the chrome lettering on the black background, so I know it's available.

I’ve pulled mine off and wrapped it, stripped the chrome off the letters and painted them, then reapplied them with new 3M VHB tape. I’ve also removed the one on my wife’s 4Runner and painted the whole thing. It’s a more meticulous process but not difficult by any means

 

you both have 4runners, now that’s a family!

as long as all guts related to the change out, etc are the same on the SR5 Premium then I may take a run at it.

 

haha, Yeah - I’ve already sunk $1000 in accessories and basic mods and I’ve only had it 3 weeks. Going to take a breather spending wise.
