    Long background on post:

I recently looked at a Jeep Mojave (built for high speed desert trails) and came close to purchasing it before realizing how attached I am to my 4Runner.

I have a 2017 TRD Pro with the stock suspension and a 1.5" Cornfed spacer. As I'm looking to put some money into my ride (instead of a new Jeep), what suspension set-up would be best for higher speed trails/desert running.

Up to this point I've mostly used my 4Runner for easier backroads/wooded trails. It can be a bit of a bumpy ride with some speed.

Also worth noting, the 4Runner is my daily driver.

King shocks, is that some sort of long travel kit?

Got any videos of that thing on the move?

Coilover manufacturer. His build is on Instagram, his account is trdlun4r

You can watch this video to learn about different types of suspension setups.

I'm familiar with King, just curious if that was some sort of specific kit. It definitely looks like a high-speed desert rider.

Just looking at those pictures, I think I can see the $$$

If you want a dessert racer you’ll spend at least 15k if you build it. This guy also added a pro charger, pretty sweet build.

For sure, I got a bit to spend but I don't think I'll reach that level. Those fender flares are pretty cool too. I'm guessing most desert types would go with a truck or something with a lower center of gravity.

The Jeep Mojave was pretty sweet (2.5" Fox reservoir w/ built-in bump stops), but I couldn't part from my 4Runner.

Look into long travel kits from Camburg, Total Chaos, or Dirt King.

If you have the money, you'll probably want extended upper and lower control arms.

King, ADS, Fox and others make nice shocks for desert racing.

Check out @Wicked-creations cantilever set-up for the rear!

If OP is not ready for long travel maintenance I bet King regular extended travel with adjuster lift with totalchaos uca and lower control arm might be good for desert running type of use. I guess..

Call accutune in San Diego ..... They will set you up and custom tune your shocks specifically to what your needs are. When you purchase from them it's free. I just did this and very happy. I did not have a set direction company I wanted to go with until speaking with them, made it easier to decide.20220127_121122.jpg

This is all really great information. Obviously you can get as crazy or spend as much $$$ as you want, but this was the sort of input I was looking for.

Thanks everyone. I think there's a good starting place here.
