I went to Walmart and the power went out. Kind of creepy. This is after the emergency lights kicked on. Before they kicked on for like 20 seconds it was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face!

At least it wasn't a SHTF event. Can you imagine?

That is why I am happy I live in a state that allows me to roll around with a cordless hole puncher.

Being in Walmart is depressing and sketchy even when the power is on.

Had a similar incident in Walmart in 2001, right after 9/11 happened. Was sitting in Walmart at the pharmacy, heard a huge BOOM, and all of us were immersed in darkness for 30 seconds before the backup lights turned on. All I could sit there and think about was, "Great...I'm going to die in Walmart." Decided to get the hell out of there and once I made it to the front door realized that the big boom I heard was a huge crack of thunder, and it was simply raining outside and the weather was bad enough to take out the electric.

I've concealed carried into Walmart ever since, just in case.

Good lord. I'll never unsee that now.

One more reason never to go to Walmart again.

I’m sorry, but to me open carry is like facial tattoos. Tells me everything I need to know. I’m just gonna go the other way.

I have had the power loss experience in a windowless building. It's no big deal if you ALWAYS carry a flashlight. I started carrying a Fenix 'tactical' light on the recommendation of a former police firearms instructor. I have gotten a lot of use out of it in normal life, and I don't go anywhere without it. I also have a tiny LED flashlight on my keychain that serves as a backup.

The Fenix light isn't cheap, currently around $80 for the model I got. If in a burning building with no light, I think I'd gladly spend $80 to survive.

Unfortunately, no flashlight will improve the ambiance of Walmart.

If their backup generator was working properly, it should have had the lights on within 10 seconds of the power going out. It might feel like longer when you're wondering wtf is going on, though.

I have several Fenix lights. IMO, they're one of the best brands available. Most are rechargeable. They have great battery life and output, and seem plenty rugged. Well worth the money!

Agreed! I have 3 PD36R flashlights, One in each truck and one in the shop. I also have 3 of the smaller headlights, again, one in each truck and one in the shop. Some of the most well made lights I have ever seen.

The only thing that will improve the ambiance of Walmart is watching them burn to the ground.

Twenty seconds of darkness is all some of those inbreds need...I bet that place was picked clean in a third of a minute and corporate lost $845,000...

Better add a flashlight to it - otherwise when the power goes out you might remotely install holes in places they shouldn't be!!!

Corporate didn't lose a thing, the shit they stole just cost more the next time the dumb asses went shopping. And they probably would just have a lay off, then add some self check outs to counter the money it cost to inventory what was stolen.
    The house never loses.....

Very true. I swore I'd never set foot in there again years ago, then I moved to the sticks where it became a necessity.

They made it even more unpleasant with online order pickers consistently blocking the isles, so naturally I pay extra for delivery now.

I didn't know people were so afraid of the dark that they start packing heat in case the lights go off...

It took a long time in this thread for someone to suggest having a flashlight, lol.

Umm... What's wrong with packing heat? Too many molesters running around now, what's a woman to do? I don't blame her, I blame the molesters and their intent.

A man has to be responsible and accountable for his actions.

Nothing wrong with packing heat, it's just kind of interesting if that's your initial thought from a power outage. Jenny says she started carrying after a thunderstorm...

I get it, I think, people realize they feel helpless in a given situation and do what they think is best. But shooting anyone isn't going to turn the lights back on.
