I have never had problems before with my 4Runner in cold weather owned since 2020 bought used from dealership just the past 3 weeks sluggish start in morning fine after started and warmed up no problems the rest of day and a tad better if we start it and warm up before we go to bed then starts a little better in morning funny though it sounds like the radio or CD player is running shhhh sound faintly even when turned off makes no sense was wondering if maybe the body control module had something wrong with it everything else is perfectly fine all day no more hard start throughout the day just mornings how do you check to see if fuses are bad or if something is wrong with body control module they want $250 just to diagnose at dealer mainly looking to see if electrical problems somewhere we are both disabled on fixed income wondered if easy enough to do ourselves my husband is mechanically inclined built many cars in younger days and built a race car a ricerocket I call it for our three boys and I am ok figuring out mechanical things to a point have rebuilt dryers and washers myself many times to save a buck over the years wanted your opinion no other problems at all just all of a sudden started doing this and we have really cold weather in prior years and in the prior months without any problems then just the ast few weeks since he went fishing at lake with friend they used cigarette lighter to charge a phone and connected a boat trailer to the back brake lights with a plug then started happening we call it there’s a gremlin somewhere draining the battery somewhat with no other problem but it sounds like radio speakers making a slight quiet noise like it’s on or the CD running we never have used CD player and I checked to see if one was in it from previous owners and there is not noise even when turned off with radio power shutoff button

    That's a long sentence lol!

Sounds like you need to track down a parasitic drain. You connect an ammeter (connection depends on type of ammeter), look at the amperage being drawn, then pull a fuse at a time (starting with the most likely culprit in your mind) until the amperage drops. Best to involve someone experienced with the process.

If you think it's related to the trailer wiring or cigarette lighter, start with those fuses. Remove the trailer wiring if some was installed, as there may be a short there. I'm thinking it's related to what was just done.

I couldn't get through that massive run-on sentence.

    How old is the battery?

    Has the battery been tested?
