If you don’t need anything extra, just go OEM or similar. I went Duracell.

Interstate makes good batteries, 98% manufactured in the US with 2% made in Mexico and with headquarters in Texas. Costco has a good price on Interstate with decent warranty.

I wish we could get the original Panasonic here in the states.

I used to want that also. On the previous 4Runners I had the OEM Panasonics lasted 6+ years. On my 2018 it failed at 4 years. Now I just get the Costco Interstates and plan on replacing every 3 years before failure.

I recently put an interstate from Costco in mine. Higher CCA than the stock Panasonic and decent price too. $109 I believe.

Put a new interstate agm battery in my 2015 as a factory replacement, a month later it left me stranded in Maine. Stone cold dead! Went to local auto repair, told I needed a new alternator and battery. Since I didn’t have any idiot lights showing any potential issues, I decided to find the closest Toyota dealer. Good move on my part, since alternator was fine. They installed an oem battery with full replacement warranty. Which any Toyota dealer will stand behind. Point I’m making is check Toyota for replacement, even if you you install yourself, they will stand behind it….got 6 years and 100k on original.. just my 2 cents

Have it tested for free at AutoZone or advance auto. Then get the most expensive house brand. Doesn't matter - the place close to your house with the newest battery is best.

On mechanics recommendation I've stopped using AGM, says voltage isn't high enough after a couple of years and can screw up electronics. Don't feel like changing an expensive AGM every year so running sealed lead acid.

Agree, I used to buy Interstate batteries and tires at Costco, but because of the lack of any resemblance of customer service at Costco, I’ve stopped shopping there long ago.

Last year I replaced the battery in my Sequoia and noticed this fall the vent caps were seeping acid. I went back to the local O’Reillys auto parts where I bought it and was pleasantly surprised. They gave me a new battery at no charge! They unlike others do not prorate their batteries.

My '03 had a Panasonic that must have made it 8-10 years! I was on the second battery (whatever the Toyota dealer was selling) at 257K miles and 15 years into its life.

Might be worth a Google search. I learned that some of the generic/store brand AGM batteries at the auto parts stores are made by name brands. I can't recall who, but maybe Diehard or Interstate.

I have after reading and watching several youtube videos where they were tested. They are EXCELLENT and actually rate very very high when tested.

Looks like Johnson Controls makes them..

    https://www.aisleofshame.com/who-ma... most popular,batteries to Walmart since 2010.

That definitely makes me more likely to get one next time around

Upon further review, it doesn't look like Johnson controls manufactures any batteries anymore. They sold their battery division in 2019 to Clarios LLC. Clarios also makes DieHard, which is what I have.

Edit : or, Clarios split off from Johnson controls. It's tough to tell what really happened just from skimming through a few articles.

Buying, selling, merging, it’s hard to keep track.

Johnson Controls Power Solutions sold off its automotive battery business to Brookfield Business Partners who then rebranded the business unit as Clarios. Batteries continue to be a big business opportunity, even more so with the EV market.

Agreed. My Panasonic lasted 7 years and over 100k. I ended up going with an Odyssey battery: Part # ODY34R-PC1500T. You’d need the spacer too: part # ODY2220-1251.

They’re pricey, but solid batteries that’ll last 6-7 years.

It's kinda cool that these companies are local to me. Brookfield is 30 minutes from me, and Johnson controls HQ isn't much further.

Edit: Clarios' corporate office is 45 minutes from me, also.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
The original 2004 OEM Mopar batteries(pair) in my diesel lasted 12yrs!….I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it. The Costco replacement interstates in it right now have 7yrs on them. 19 yr old truck still on its 2nd set….

I have a OEM Toyota battery in my 2019, and it was already replaced prior to me buying it, by the dealer in Alabama.
Here in South Carolina, I rarely get 4 years out of a battery in all my vehicles.
I try to stick to name brands, but after reading on many other products sold in USA, most are made by one to three manufactures' with lables put on.

I hear that their quality isn't what it used to be. But, who knows.

It seems that running an AGM battery on a stock charging system is not ideal. I will be hooking mine up to a trickle charger once every month from here on out.

For a mall-crawling vehicle like your 2018 TRD OR, you don't need an overly heavy-duty battery designed for off-road use. A good quality and reliable GTK Marine Power battery from a reputable brand would be sufficient for your needs.
Consider choosing a maintenance-free AGM battery as they are spill-proof and require little to no maintenance, making them ideal for casual driving. Brands like Optima, Interstate, and Odyssey offer AGM batteries known for their reliability and performance.

ya know, Walmart batteries consistently rank high in testing. There is a great Project Farm video of the testing on youtube.

@POWERPLANTHOMER ,,, tell me more please?

I'm assuming the Tundra battery is larger/more powerful??
What's the purpose of this mod?
Did you have to mod anything else or is it just plug & play???

    Graicas mi amigo!
