I have a 2021 4Runner that I'd like to add an awning to. I want an awning to provide some shade and cover when out driving on the beach, forest roads, etc., that I get out on maybe 1x per month. I have the OEM rails on with Thule Aero crossbars.

Im not sure that I am interested in a 180 or 270 primarily because budget is $350 max, though I can get to $355 for the ARB if that's where the recommendations end up.

I have no experience with these types of products and am looking for recommendations based on actual use, durability, longevity, and other considerations I am not listing.

I think I've narrowed down my awning choices to:

Ironman 8' (comes with pre-installed light) for $299 - Love the price, exterior bag is a horrible color, though.

ARB 2500x2500 (with pre-installed light) for $355 and available locally - seems to get great reviews here in this forum and elsewhere and appears to be the standard.

Roam 8' (doesnt appear to have a light) for $339 - I see those all over town as it appears people install them on the rack and never take them off.

CVT 99"x 79" for $325 - can't figure out shipping here so it may be more expensive or I can just take a road trip to Bend from Portland to pick it up.

Any reliable products Im missing here? For my usage, are these products listed above overkill and perhaps I should look at cheaper Amazon alternatives?

Thanks in advance...look forward to the feedback!

Own an ARB 1250 and an ARB 2000 with light. Both great, use the 2000 all the time now, very slight sag with the installed light in the center, but other then that no issues. Quality is fantastic.

I have the Ironman, no complaints, like it a lot. Ironman's quick detach brackets are pretty cool too.

I've further narrowed this down to the ARB or ROAM...any users with advice relative to these 2?

I have two ARB awnings on my trailer and move the smaller one to my T4R sometimes. They're great, especially with the rooms underneath.

I have the Ironman you referenced. Been great for me.
Apparently NAPA auto makes one for 99 bucks a lot of people have been using. Not 8’ though

Well, forget the ARB...price just went up from $355 to $423 across major retailers.

I have the 23Zero Pergrine 180 and Bushman awning. Both have the LST technology and do an amazing job blocking out the sun. I also have the room for the Bushman awning, which is great for my off-road trailer. They are both awesome. The Ironman 4x4 quick brackets work with the Bushman awning, but not the 180, the 180 requires beefy brackets (included w/awning).

I have a NEMO 6x8 awning that attaches via C-channel. It's hard to find, so I'm apprehensive to post anything about it, but it's simple and effective.

Ended up getting a 99" CVT - Price is right, LED light integrated, and can buy walls for it. Theyre located in Bend, so a 3-hour drive to pick it up next weekend (otherwise $170 to ship). Hmmm, I just realized that the 99" (W) x 79" (L) is really 8' x 6' and change. I'm gonna sleep on that as I was really wanting an 8'x8' awning.

Note: Called the folks at 4WheelParts to see if they'd match their over-the-weekend price of $355 for the ARB and they would, but they couldnt set up a local pick up and were charging $129 for shipping. Local 4WP store indicated that they were backordered anyway, so not sure if the item was even available.

Update: Ugh! Slept on it and I am going to cancel the CVT. I really do want a 8' x8' awning and the CVT just doesnt get there. Despite really disliking the Ironman cover and logo, Im now leaning toward the Ironman awning.

Don’t overlook the 23Zero Bushman Awning. It is an option for 98x98.
    https://spiritof1876.com/products/23zero-bushman-awning?variant=40386821292207

I was in the same predicament between CVT and Ironman 4x4, but glad I went with 23Zero. I went with 23Zero because the room was also better than both CVT and Ironman4x4 IMO and I also wanted the room. I was able to see CVT in person and thought it was just okay. A YouTube on the Ironman 4x4 just didn’t do it for me. Good luck with your decision.

I have the Ironman and love it. One of the strong points for me was that certain pieces are plastic and designed to give way before bending up a bunch of metal causing more damage. The color in person seems darker than what it does on the website and I'm pretty sure with a heat gun and some patience you can remove the logo off the outer bag. I can setup or take down mine in about 1 minute by myself so I literally use it all the time like having beers in the parking lot with the other hockey dad's or at lacrosse practice.

I'm not the biggest fan of the hulk either, wish they did a subdued version, but being as OCD as I am about colors and matching, I kind of forgot his green ass is up there.

Two collapsible tent poles, some cordage, and a tarp. You can set it up on any side of the truck you need, it's cheap, and you aren't driving around constantly with yet another big thing on your roof.
Although people might laugh at you, because it is too cheap and simple for OVERLANDING.

Didnt realize that Ironman is located only 20 minutes from me. Placed an order with them and hope to hear from them soon that its ready for pick up. Im gonna have to do my best not to get trapped when I go to pick it up as I walk through their showroom...

OK, an awning AND a tarp would be a very flexible setup. Good call.

works really well...get one with a silver side to block heat(windows or w/ awning) and also the benefit of SOS

Im now looking to maybe add an awning wall for $99 minus 25% with ironman's fall code...and maybe some quick release thingies. Any feedback on the utility of a wall or the quick release things?

Also, looking at the Gzilla things so I dont have to mount anything to the Thule aero crossbars that I have...is there a comparable product that isnt $70 but works like the Gzilla's?

I have the wall that mounts on the end. It slides in easy enough but the only real downfall to it is that it can only really be used on soft ground because it is staked in at the bottom. I need to get the quick release brackets, they were out of stock for a while.
