I have a 18 ORP and every time I get in my car and select Bluetooth my iPhone automatically starts playing random songs. I’ve shut everything off that I can think of on both the car and phone. I was hoping someone here had solved the problem. It gets annoying when it constantly trying to play music when I’m trying to listen to other stuff on my phone.

Actually I don’t have the music mode going on my phone and the radio isn’t on Bluetooth. It happens when I select Bluetooth and it automatically opens my music and starts playing.

i had something similar to this happen to me recently in my '19; when i would turn the car on my blue tooth automatically connects but would make a phone call to myself. It kept happening for a few days until i turned everything off on the vehicle and restarted my phone and the problem went away.

I got it narrowed down. It has to be a setting on my iPhone somewhere. It started doing it when I plugged in to the USB Aux too. I plug it in and it automatically opens my music and starts playing random songs.

Yes I’m a pretty tech savvy guy and usually the go to person on things like this. This one has me stumped

Interesting side note. My phone just started showing accessory not supported then it disconnected from my radio. It wouldn’t reconnect so I shut the car off and recycled the car power to get it to reconnect. Also the Bluetooth name went from Toyota 4Runner to car accessory.

It should connect automatically. However, when you go into the setting screen and select your phone, it will play your last music source on your phone automatically. Maybe try removing your phone and pairing it again, or take off any other phones that might be on there, then it will probably connect automatically. Hope this helps!

That’s the issue I want it to stop the automatic play of my last music source. I have tried repairing and it still does it.

If you haven’t already try re-booting the head-unit by holding in the on-off button for 10 seconds. It might help.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmm my does this too!!! seriously hate it. also if I stop the song playing and play something else on my phone besides iTunes, like from the youtube or soundcloud and I adjust the volume on my head unit it will stop the song playing and go back to the last song on iTunes! I have no idea what is going on. I am going to chalk it up as entune is telling it to do it. I wonder is this happens on the 2020's?

Mine does the same thing, my last car was a Subaru Outback, it did the same thing. It seems to be a known issue with iPhone. This drives me crazy.
I have looked for a way to stop it. There are a LOT of posts if you Google search it. "iphone starts playing music randomly on car bluetooth"
None of the fixes really fix it. They are just work arounds.

I know this an old thread but I wanted to add a couple things since it popped up in my search, maybe others will see this too.

I also have the bluetooth autoplay issue where it autoplays my last played song when I start my car, beginning from the last point I had listened to on Spotify on my phone. If I last listened to Spotify on my laptop, it ignores that and begins playing what I last listened to on my phone instead, even if it was a song I haven’t listened to for days or weeks. If I pause the music and then change the volume, the volume change causes the music to autoplay again, which I personally find even more annoying than the initial autoplay.

A couple additional details on some other people's comments:
    1) someone above said they wondered if it happened in the 20s 4Runners. I'm not sure about the other years but it is happening in my 2020 4Runner SR5.
    2) somebody above said this is a known issue with iPhone. However, I don't have an iPhone, nor do I have this autoplay issue when connecting with any other Bluetooth devices. This leads me to believe it is the car that is doing this. I checked my manual and my phone settings extensively and did not find any solutions.
