    So our new to us ‘21 SR5 doesn’t have auto headlights. I know on my past Tundras I was able to replace the turn signal stalk with one from a limited, add a light sensor and it worked (works on Tundras if the screen has the adjustments). Has anyone done this in a 4Runner or know if it would work?

    @Luvrv8 Do you have the part number for the turn signal stalk with the auto function?

    Not at the moment. I’ve found a post where 2 part numbers were listed but haven’t looked at them. Also, I reading that possibly a wiring harness (on couple wires) might be missing from the body control module.

    Is this thread about the dimming dash display, or a switch that allows your headlights to come on automatically as daylight fades?

    2022/2023 works differently. I have tested these.
    Mod not needed on 2022/2023.

    Not sure about 2021

    Not exactly the same topic as this thread, but has anyone else noticed their auto high beams not working very well? I constantly find them turning on at the wrong time and blinding the person in the oncoming lane, this might just be because of the fact that I live in an area with many hills and the position of the sensor isn't set up for it.

    I’ve only tried it a few times but I was impressed by how well it seemed to work.

    Can't help out with this exactly but I just run my headlights on all the time. They turn off automatically after x amount of time or you can hit lock button twice to turn them off (at least with 2019).

    I do have to manually turn the wheel up/down between day/night and the over dash clock is always dim, but works good enough for me

    What do you mean by this? My 23 has the dummy light sensor, and I just ordered https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B73ZPNFH. Is it not going to work? OR do you mean I just add this and head light switch 84140-35171 and have fully functional auto headlights?

    Its not compatible with newer models.
    Check with Toyota Parts
    Dash dimming Functionality is built in. I have tested it out.

    The sensor has nothing to do with 'auto headlights'
    Its for dimming the Dash

    This part is just for the HID and light cluster on dash.

    Looks like that part number has been replaced with
    AMBIENT LIGHT SENSOR - TOYOTA (89121-0E060)

    Anyone try and add the auto headlights from the trd pro to other models? Thought you needed an ecu module along with sensor and stalk

    When did you order and who from on Ebay would be greatly appreciated? Did you have to pay any addition fees such as import and duty fees?
    Thank you!

    In March. The seller was jpanime2014. I also got my FJ Transmission knob from them last year. Just checking, they currently have one sensor left for $50 including shipping. No extra fees as I suspect they are a import warehouser.

    That's who I ordered from. Price was $42 plus $8 shipping and $4.13 tax total $54.13. Thanks

    @Texas4Runner

    No problem. Be sure and use a zip tie between the wires to avoid losing the wire behind the dash. I believe @kmeeg has a video about this.

    Sadly, As far as I've heard the sensor I used not work for 2020+. Older sensor is pretty cheap though.

    @kmeeg

    Yeah and I just rewatched your video where you went all gangsta and didn't bother with the zip tie. My bad. I used the zip tie method because this is the exact easy thing to do that I seemingly always mess up. haha.

    The model I used is compatible (#89121-30020 OEM) to work in 2022 and 2023's not sure about 2021. There is a new part number that replaces #89121-30020 which is #89121-0E060. I called Toyota dealership parts and they verified they are the same part.

    @Texas4Runner

    What I did is slide a zip tie between the wires under the base of the sensor's plug. That way you can release it without it falling back through the dash. Snap the sensor into the plug, remove the zip tie, and push it back in the dash. Will be a bit more snug than the blank, so ensure it seats properly.

    And for anyone else. The replacement part# 89121-0E060 is over $100. Don't waste your money and find the old #89121-30020 for your '20 & up. Still plenty of inventory around. Not sure about the '19s and earlier availability of #89121-50020.

    I Just got mine in today and it worked beautifully. I have a 23 SR5P, and I purchased part # 89121-30020 off Amazon.

    Has anyone tried installing this: Multi-Function Switch - Toyota (84140-35171) on a 2023 SR5P to have Auto Headlights? I already did the sensor install and that got me the auto dimming of the dash with the headlights on - wondering if swapping the light control stalk will get me auto headlights?

    I've been tempted to try this. I read somewhere that it was tried on a Tacoma (or Tundra) and it didn't work. I'd have to look at a wiring diagram before I ordered the part. Even a detailed image of the part would be helpful to see if it has the same connectors.

    Yes - I did just put that in to get the auto dimming of the dash and it works great. I am now trying to figure out if there is a simple/cheap way to get auto headlights.

    You can't. I know you can't do it cheap, and I'm kind of sure you can't do it at all. You'd have to replace the stalk coming off the steering column.
